Memory Players
I would not buy any player based on claims of superior or different technology. IMO, that's the downfall of many audiophiles. Buy based on sound, build quality and reputation for good service. There are many excellent players out there and you can...
Gingko Cloud 9 Scoutmaster
If you have footfall problems, I have never seen anything other than a wallshelf that will eliminate the issues. If you can possibly fit one into your setup it will make your life and music a lot better.
Name 3 under appreciated pop/rock drummers
The vast majority of the people mentioned above were very well-appreciatated in their day - Dino Danelli, Jim Gordon and Jeff Porcaro, in particular, were some of the most highly-regarded players of their time. I will vote for Graham Lear, who I s...
Amps for MBL 111
I agree Foster. It is a breath of fresh air to hear the opinion of someone with actual experience with the gear in question instead of spouting off ridiculous stuff they read or heard.
Do you ground your bearing?
Basis claims it helps reduce static. I've never tried it without the ground.
Harmonix component Tuning Footers
I had the round cherry adjustable ones with the thick gold band around the center. Forgot the designation. Frankly, every footer I have tried had the same result - the sound was altered in some way, but not necessarily for the better. IMO, hard fo...
Christmas Music and Audiophiles?
Actually, I grew up with DJ, but I always found his music too raucous when he played with bands. Mac Rebennac is solo piano and shows his, what I think is unbelievable virtuosity with this style. Plus, it was recorded by Dean Roumanis on a Mark Le...
Christmas Music and Audiophiles?
Rok2id - If you don't like that record, there ain't no cure.
Christmas Music and Audiophiles?
Dr. John singing "Silent Night" on the Dr. John plays Mac Rebennac CD. Incredible music and sound. I was able to find two sealed copies on vinyl, but Silent Night is only on the CD. Christmas or no, pick up this CD.
Are all Linn products made in Scotland?
Just follow the tune.
I just started listening to my CD player again
I don't know if you own a power conditioner, but if you don't, I would consider purchasing the Audience AR1p. There's one up for sale now at $300+. (no, it's not mine). This may well make a bigger difference than a new power cord, depending on the...
Record Cleaner Fluid suggestions
I am very impressed with Nitty Gritty Pure 2. It works very well and dries quickly due to a bit of alcohol. I have also tried Disc Doctor, Phoenix and L'Art and have not found any demonstrable superiority over NG2. I would say I leave it on for ab...
non redbook CD's
It sounds like you're speaking about peoples' interest in how a multi-format player performs with redbook CD. Unfortunately, many fine SACD or video players fall down significantly in this area as compared to a good Redbook-only player.
How best to upgrade
I don't know where you live, but if it's possible, I would build a relationship with a good audio dealer who can demonstrate the possibilites for you. I know it can be a little intimidating, but otherwise, you're just stabbing around in the dark. ...
On a mission for more BASS
Stick them in the corners - that should make them more to your liking.
