Aftermarket Upgrade Question
Try a Herbies mat. It made a huge improvement on my old Music Hall turntable. OTOH, it was horrible on my Linn. Money back if not satisfied.  The other thing that might help is a Vibrapod under each foot. May help, may not. Beyond that, I wouldn’t...
LINN LINTO NOISE
While I agree that the preamp should be muted, the Linto manual states that the output is well “de-thumped” (an unusual term by a manufacturer) so there should be no issues turning it on or off.  Whether this means total silence or just nothing ho...
High Fidelity Cables?
Do you actually have a 71 455?  I had a 70 GTO with the 400. But that was in 70. Nice car.
Testing stylus wear.
If you really want to check the cart for wear, send it over to Steve at VAS for a checkup and cleaning. He has an excellent reputation and I believe he will give you an honest appraisal.
High Fidelity Cables?
Aren’t people still buying the contact enhancer?  Or is that over too?
Dumping it all for Lyngdorf???
Just a friendly piece of advice from someone who has been there and back. Buy what sounds good and forget about what makes sense on paper.
any thoughts?
Yes. Absolutely. At that age, even if the transport is repairable if it breaks, the caps and/or solder joints will be shot or almost shot. Better yet, check eBay for factory-refurbished CXCs for about $350. The Best Buy in the transport game. Not ...
Dumping it all for Lyngdorf???
It sounds like you have reached the point in your audiophile journey where you are tired of screwing around with gear and just want to sit back and listen to a system that sounds good. Nothing wrong with screwing around with gear, by the way.  It’...
Any women looking at this add Please reply
I can assure you that the “luckiest guy in the world” is not posting on this (or any other) Forum.
New Naim Forum
The big power supplies are a transformative upgrade for Naim gear.  From what I can see, not many Naim lovers here. Not Naim haters, but most Naim owners gravitate to the Naim forum. BTW, the HiLine IC made a huge difference as well. We had a comp...
LINN LINTO NOISE
I have a Linto, but I never shut it down before shutting the amp down first, or at least changing the input selector. Many products have a turn-off thump and one of the things we learn is to turn the amp on last and off first to avoid the thumps b...
Audioquest vs Mogami XLR Audio connector cables
I don’t think the actual argument is that all cables sound the same. It’s something that has been parroted so many times that it has become a complete thought. The actual statement is that all cables that measure the same in terms of resistance, i...
What is Tight Bass?
Tight bass is an audiophile term that I never heard used in all my years working as a musician or in the studios. I think audiophiles use it to mean that you can differentiate the pitches of the bass instrument as opposed to a general rumble of lo...
Looking for nearfield passive speakers that are warm and rich
Not sure of what size people consider desktop but I think the Chartwell LS6 are very nice for near field. Check out the size before buying.
Heart vs the Head / Irrational Audio Compulsions?
As my dear departed wife used to say: “If not now, when?.”
