Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
@mulveling  I agree. Nearly all of my favorite tubes have D-Foil getters. I just found a pair of code matched Valvo 45° Long Plate Getter D-Foil 12AU7 that were sold to me lumped in with a bunch of Bugle Boys because they were labeled Bugle Bo...

@mulveling RE: Master II - I misspoke. I meant Signature II. You’d think for as long as I’ve been considering one I would know that. And I do. But my grey matter keeps getting greyer as I throttle down the on-ramp to being an official Geezer. I d...
Cool feature on Pass X260.8 Mono Amps
I have the xa160.8s and the meter brightness on one is conspicuously brighter than the other one and has been driving me to near madness. thanks for the tip.

Their contribution was undoubtedly significant. The Gold Lions are a good sounding, generally reliable and long lived tube at a very accessible price point. I ran eight of them for the better part of a decade in my own kit.

@rzado  Those prices are ludicrous. And I buy/sell that stuff everyday. And I feel horrible for charging HALF what those guys charge for that stuff. My god. Everyone thinks the crooks are on eBay when its more often than not the opposite. TubeD...

@mulveling    How do you like your VAC gear, specifically your amps? I have a couple MC275s I've run as monoblocks in a bi-amped setup (currently paired with Pass Labs xa160.8s.) that I think I'm ready repurpose and/or upgrade. I had planned to...

@emergingsoul  I sell tubes full-time for a living and I think you'll be looking for those elusive Siemens' 6550s for a very long time indeed because I don't believe they exist.  I love Siemens tubes and I'll tell you the closest thing to what I...
Add sub to 802D4s?
@jeffreyw  I have 802D4s that I bi-amp. I use two mono-blocked MC275s for the highs and the mids and at first had an MC302 dedicated to the lows. It did the work but not without the feeling that it while it did the it, it would rather spend its t...
Do NOS Mullard EL34 tubes last much longer than NOS SED (Svetlana) EL34 ?
@Serblinfan I just got in 16 or so NOS/NOS TESTING Mullard xf2 EL34. I think there is at least one quad that is NIB, maybe more. I know the provenance/chain of custody of these tubes going back 40--50 years. And I sell at reasonable prices, not l...
ADD or Audiophile?
Clinically diagnosed ADD/ADHD is far more complex and far more devastating to lives than the punchline it's become suggests. And by clinically diagnosed I don't mean "I got my doctor to prescribe me Adderall."
Why even bother?
"...simply asking..." The use of this expression always suggests to me there was nothing simple about it.
Do NOS Mullard EL34 tubes last much longer than NOS SED (Svetlana) EL34 ?
@akg_ca  Why didn't the merchant just replace the tube? I would have. No problem.
Tube amps under $7500
@mdalton  Something tells me that's not your first time putting that formula into play. No matter, I couldn't agree more. While price (and resale price) is a consideration, it's a rather distant cousin to the priority of value. At least for me. I...

@mclinnguy  RE: McIntosh Resale Value Like anything, certain models hold more value than others. Rolex is a strong analog for McIntosh in that regard. Undoubtedly which models and how much those models retain in value is impacted by the size ...
Tube amps under $7500
@larryi  That kind of bass isn't a priority for me either. That said, I have full-range speakers that go down to 17hz so I don't really even need a subwoofer, though I do have some, they just aren't turned on most of the time. I also don't mess ...
