A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
I do have one non disclosure agreement which I can not discuss. I bet that's related to hiding how much you spend on audiophilia from your family...
Ikeda 9 Cartridge Squeaking
I think I'm correct in remembering Expert Stylus used to service Decca cartridges, but only by sending them on to John Wright. Perhaps that's what they did with the Ikeda too. BTW, back all the way to the OP: I have heard Decca cartridges make no...
Turntable choice for mono records
@mijostyn You're missing out, but being a grown-up, you do you! I have no perception of stereo, having only one ear. But I still perceive a benefit from a mono cartridge playing a mono recording: much less surface noise. Since my mono records are ...
Curious Why Benz Micro Slid Into Obscurity
Moved on to Furtwangler's 1951 Beethoven 9th, and smiled some more. Then the 1967 Parlophone mono Sgt. Pepper. I think it sounds better than the pristine modern stereo re-release, despite having had a hard life (bought used in 1968 by my brother, ...
VAS MC One Transformer
Thanks, all. I’m experimenting with the two inputs, and whilst both sound remarkably nice, the low/47Ω input sounds as if it has a richer, fuller bass than the high/100Ω input (maybe I’m being fooled by an increase in volume: 17.3dB vs. 10.9dB). I...
Curious Why Benz Micro Slid Into Obscurity
Currently playing Sibelius 2nd, Tauno Hannikainen, Sinfonia of London, 1959. Sounds delightful, and definitely quieter than playing this old mono record with a stereo cartridge.
VAS MC One Transformer
Those are the numbers from VAS: https://vasnyinc.com/vasmcone/ Steve has replied that I should simply go with what sounds best.
VAS MC One Transformer
Yes, I have a question in to Steve, with whom I correspond fairly often. But he will be biased in favour of his transformer (quite rightly) so I thought to ask you well-informed gentlemen as well.
Turntable choice for mono records
@danmar123 I beg to differ, the Cadenza mono is a true mono cartridge. The coil mount on the cantilever is rotated 45° and only the horizontally sensitive coil is connected, and to both sets of pins. I believe, at least, I am told, the vertically ...
Goodbye Everyone
@lewm I haven't kept up with it, being retired now, but I think Pradax is C/I in patients with prosthetic valves, but not in patients with AF (at least not here).
Goodbye Everyone
I was assuming I could get off a few meds. Nope, they are gonna add more, all heart meds are for life. If you have AF, be a little wary about the new anticoagulants. My own lawyer, who was my patient, had a mitral valve replacement, and chose t...
Turntable choice for mono records
I have two turntables, both the same, SME model 10. One has my best stereo cartridge, and one my best mono cartridge. Currently, that mean a Benz Micro LP-S on the first (via SME Series V) and an Ortofon Cadenza Mono on the other (via SME Series I...
Goodbye Everyone
Best of luck, Elliott! I too loathe hospitals, which is ironic. A necessary evil.
cleaning gritty surface noise on LPs
I'd be a bit suspicious about all those LAST products too. @mijostyn I must disagree with you in your blanket condemnation of ultrasonic cleaning. If used wisely, it certainly improves on a vacuum RCM, and by wisely I mean addressing the issue yo...
Curious Why Benz Micro Slid Into Obscurity
I was very surprised to do a head to head comparison of the LP-S with the London Decca Reference. The Decca has been finally de-throned! So the LP-S is now on the SME V, and the Cadenza Mono is on the IV. I couldn't resist, and sent the Ruby 3 off...
