Grado Prestige Gold 3
It certainly is, but not really relevant in this thread. You're going to be in the strange position of telling others who have never heard them why they were so special, along with me. No one will ever believe us!
SME V Tonearm on eBay Hong Kong Sellers are FAKE!!!
I recently learned the Chinese word 'wumao'. It would seem to apply to a poster in this thread...
Grado Prestige Gold 3
I'm a fan of MI cartridges, and while these aren't in your price range, the comparison might hold true for more affordable examples in the two companies' line-up of products. I recently bought and compared a Nagaoka MP-500 and a Grado Lineage Stat...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
I'm glad to hear it (as, I'm sure, are you!)
Michael Fremer leaves Analog Planet
For those who think Fremer quirky, you should have met Dr Harvey "Gizmo" Rosenberg, soi-disant Thermionic Techno-Shaman. It's the small touches—note the fire extinguisher? Now he was a truly eccentric and worthy man.

I'm in NS.
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
@mglik The Grado Lineage Statement 3 is a little brother to the Epoch 3. It is very quiet as far as surface noise goes. It's a decent cartridge, but I can't say it is better than the Nagaoka MP-500, which has a very similar MI design, and one thir...

Fredericton? A bit too far then. The bias against cheap MCs is because MM and MI cartridges sound very good, and for an MC to beat them it usually will be a good deal more expensive. They are harder to make, and much harder to make so that they s...

Justin - I just read the replies in between mine. Where in NB are you?

Justin, I’d doubt you’ve harmed any of your records playing them a few times at 2g. But if the past owner was careless about that, what else was he not paying close attention to? If that cartridge has been run for hundreds of hours at 2g it proba...

No question about it, you can make vinyl outperform a CD.  I'll assume the amp and the speakers are OK since the CD uses them too, and you like the CD sound. So that leaves us to think about the table, the cartridge, the setup of the cartridge, a...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
The most reliable thing for me is whether I drift off and choose to do other things rather than listen to music. When I've got something right I can't wait to get home and turn on the system and play some music.
Cartridges, Vinyl, Stylus, Turntable
And here I am with two turntables in my primary system, both the same, and just so I can have two different cartridges on the go!
Cartridges, Vinyl, Stylus, Turntable
AS long as the cartridge is properly aligned, and the stylus isn't worn or damaged, I believe you can play your records on the second turntable without fear. Nor do the two cartridges in use have to have the same stylus profile (theoretically, if ...
Phono Stage Gain - how does it impact sound?
Currently (not a word used to show that I never heard of Ohm's Law) I'm using three moving iron cartridges. 1mV, 3mV and 5mV. My phono amp has three settings for 'sensitivity' (ie gain), expecting respective inputs of 1.3mV, 2.6mV and 5.2mV. Now I...
