Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP For what it is worth, I tried the Grant Fidelity tube buffer between a Azur 640 CD player and a McIntosh MA6300 integrated amp driving a double stack of Large Advents. Could not tell a difference.
Preramp for Adcom GFA 565's Hi Noble100,Supposed to deliver today so I will keep you posted. I heard a big difference when I went to the Krell from a Mac amp. Much more dynamic and cleaner sounding for the Maggie 1.7's to my ear. I suppose that a lot of what I heard was the ...
Magnepan 1.7 too bright, HELP My Maggie 1.7's are in a room with 9 foot ceilings, 35 feet long and 15 wide. Fully carpeted with couch, loveseat, and chair. Palm trees behind the speakers. The room is on a lower level with stairs near the listening end and an el around the back...

Preramp for Adcom GFA 565's Hi Noble100, Thank you for your comments. Being able to hear it before you buy seems to be the rub. I am also considering the Wyred4Sound mono blocks and I see that on Audiogon there is a pair of Cary 500 MB monoblocks that are supposed to be pret...
Preramp for Adcom GFA 565's Noble100,I want to power Maggie 1.7's. Some of what led me to the Adcom's was that they are supposed to be good in the bass and I thought that might help the Maggies. I also feel that the Krell is a little bit...uninvolving. Want a weightier "rich...
Preramp for Adcom GFA 565's Thank you for the good suggestions. This is hard - I keep thinking of reasonas to not pull the trigger on the amps.Am I nuts for wanting to move to the Adcoms from a new Krell S300i? I would be picking up another 150wpc into 4 ohms, and a lower noi...

Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s I listened to the Revels again with a CD by the Jayhawks that I know quite well. I decided that the Revels are not that great after all. Thery definitely have the bass and weight but they do lack the last bit of detail and resoluton that I hear wi...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s I think that we have already talked about tweeters in and out and front to back. You can change out the metal jumper. I replaced mine with a solid copper wire. I think that it makes the sound a little bit more detailed. Not sure how bid a deal tha...
Magnepan 1.7 Magfan, or anyone, any opinions about the best approach for Maggie stands? There seems to be the type that completely frames the maggies or the "Mye" approach which seems to primarily add bracing on the "back" side of the speakers.
Which Integrated for Magnepan MG-12? I owned Maggie 1.2's that I listened to with a McIntosh integrated at 160wpc into 4 ohms.I then did an in house test with a Krell S300I at 300 wpc into 4 ohms. I heard amazing improvement as the Maggie 1.2's came alive. They needed the watts to br...
Magnepan 1.7 One other thing I forgot to mentin is that Magnepan provides plastic washers that can be used to tilt the speakers. They fit between the foot brackets and the speaker itself. When inserted this has the effect of tilting the speakers slightly back....
Magnepan 1.7 You are right - a free upgrade in about five minutes!I am going to savor this for a while before I flip them from front to back.Just seems a little too far out for my sensibilities at this point! |
