how does current work in an amplifier? Hi Magfan,I always wanted a Mac and figured it for good resale if it came to that.I want the slam without the treble going over the top. Mac seems pretty mellow in that regard, especially if I decide to upgrade to MG 1.7's. My 1.2's are less than ...
Maggie 1.2's Low End Crossover Upgrade Josh 358,I have placed a fake palm tree in one corner and that speaker....well..it seems louder and the center of the sound stage has shifted. It appears that I can improve things with another fake tree on the other side to create dispersion there...
how does current work in an amplifier? Guys, your knowledge is impressive, but gets confusing for the relative neophyte! The main takeaways that I got from the last several threads are: 1) do not get hung up on current because Ohms Law demonstrates that current really does not tell the ...
how does current work in an amplifier? So.....all other things being equal (same room, same source, same cables, same other characteristics of the amplifier), am I to understand that an amp that delivers more current would do a better job of driving a 4 ohm speaker, like Magnepan MG12'...
Tube amp for double stacked Large Advents Hi Truman,I had not heard about the Quicksilver amps. I like the American made idea. There seems to be a lot of "inexpensive" Chinese stuff out there - do not know how good it is.I used to drive the double stack Advents with a Mac MA6300 at 100 wp...
Best Amp for Magnepan 1.7? For what it is worth, I run MG1.2's wth a McIntosh MA 6300 integrated at 160 wpc into 4 ohms. Sounds good to me.The efficiency of both speakers is about the same.
Maggie 1.2's Low End Crossover Upgrade Hi Magfan, I would recommend bypassing the attenuator and fuse altogether. this creates a noticeable change in the treble. On the 1.2's you can change it witout soldering so it is easily reversible. It generally improves the clarity of the high en...

Magnepan Owners - Need Your Thoughts Please I recently bought new MG12's and run them with a McIntosh MA6300 integrated amp. It is solid state at 100 wpc/8 ohms and 160 watts/4 ohms.My room size is 18 by 33 with 8 foot ceilings. I have the Maggies sitting on 14 inch square hard wood cubes a...
Inexpensive sub for MG12's I appreciate Tasmi's and others reponses to my questions about subwoofers for MG12's.As I have been reading the responses, I was also cruising the internet to learn more as well as look at manufacturer sites. I am forming the opinion that a bigger...
An Advent Guy I was using two stacked pairs of large Advents from the early 70's with a new MCIntosh MA6300 at 100wpc and a Cambridge 640 Azur cd player. I replaced the original caps in the Advents with Soelens capacitors which really opened up the tweeters and...
WOW Aerial 10T vs. B&W 801II/III Hi, I have heard good things about these speakers but have not actually listened to them. How much power do they really need? Can they be bi-amped?I am thinking that my McIntosh SS 100wpc would not be enough and I would need to add a bass amplifier... |
