Is it really useless Upscaling 16/44.1 music to 24
Thanks Cerrot. I am always trying to find new information on this complicated topic. The G25U is an interesting option, especially for older DACs with less good jitter protection.
External Drive Help
I just went through a cyclic redundancy check issue with a WD 4 Tb drive. It worked fine most of the time then I would see an error. I tried ckdisk on it and it never finished. I also had virus scans just hang. Finally replaced the drive and all i...

Cerrot - I believe you are reclocking as well as upsampling. Have you been able to determne which makes the most difference?
Thiel with "Warmest" Midrange? 2.7 vs 3.7 vs Older
There is a very informative discussion of the bass in the 2.7 versus 3.7 in this post from 2 years ago :Thiel 2.7The 2.7 was Jim's design and included much that he learned from designing the 3.7.

The choice often comes done to theory versus practical. If a 16/44 DAC does it job perfectly and the brick wall filter is irrelevant, then 16/24 should perfectly reproduce the original sound. However, DACs are not perfect and brick wall filters do...

Archiving DATs to computer or server HD
For a digital recorder you might look at the Tascam DR-100mkII. It is a portable recorder with a digital input. It records to a SD disk. To move the files to a PC you can either copy them over the USB or move the SD card to the PC and copy them wi...

Raymond - The Tascam US-1800 does not have a disk. It takes the real time S/PDIF signal and passes it through the USB to the PC in real time. You then capture that real time signal with software on the PC. It appears as a recording device within W...
Archiving DATs to computer or server HD
Maybe it is as easy as sharpening a pencil to you but not to someone who has never done it. Why not just be polite. Is that too much to ask? And, by the way, when was the last time someone asked about recording from a DAT? I really do not think it...

What's with the insults? The OP clearly is not experienced in this area and is asking for help. When he does not know what he is looking for, just throwing out a bunch of manufactures names is not very useful. The Micro Track suggestion is a good ...

There are two ways to get the data from the DAT playter to the PC. You can transfer the digital file directly or you can let the player convert to analog by playing the tape and capture the analog out and convert it to digital. The digital transfe...
Cable Box Digital 5.1 converted to Digital Stereo
Did you try the analog outs from the cable box?Having the TV on is not so bad. It tells you what is playing.
Can You Rewind The Broadcast On A Bonehead Play?
Let's not forget that ridiculous catch that set up the ending. Everyone in NE said "Oh no, not again!" We lost the first one, but won this one.
Cable Box Digital 5.1 converted to Digital Stereo
The cable box may have 2 channel analog outs that can feed the Tascam. Its DAC is not that good, but for the quality of the music, it is probably OK.Is your cable box connected to a receiver? If so, you might be able to set the receiver to output ...
Early Classe CDP timeline ??
I had a CDP-10 for many years and really liked the sound. But I moved on. Their has been, in my mind, significant improvement in DACs since the CDP-10 days. The Classe sound is a very polished, rich sound versus some of the more modern very detail...
