Ripping CD's - Bypassing Computer CD Player
The timing in most USB connections today is controlled by the converter or the DAC, not by the PC. So, there should be no timing issues specific to the PC. All it has to do it keep the buffer full and deliver the data when asked. I guess it is pos...
Ripping CD's - Bypassing Computer CD Player
Some people claim that 2 bit for bit identical wav files will sound different if one was ripped directly to wav and the other ripped to flac and converted to wav. Same if a wav file is converted to flac and back to wav. Makes no sense to me, but s...

Kijanki - I assume bit perfect software/hardware delivery is a given. I am talking about different sound from bit identical files. There is no timing information in a digital file so the jitter comes on playback. There are lots of sources of it, a...

NAB2 - those discussions never reach a conclusion. There are people who insist that two bit for bit identical files sound different. There are people that think that flac always sounds worse than wav. There are people that think that a wav file th...

You might like the Soundcast speakers. They are high quality, onmi-directional outdoor speakers that are meant to be portable. You can run them from a Bluetooth source.Soundcast Speakers
Which Amplifier for Sonus Faber Olympica 3 Speaker
George - the review is useful. Thanks. What has typically made SF hard to drive is not just the impedance but also the phase angle. The Miller report does comment that the phase angle is well controlled, so the speaker may not be as hard to drive ...
Which Amplifier for Sonus Faber Olympica 3 Speaker
George - the older SF were, as you say, notoriously hard to drive due to impedence and phase angle issues. However, the newer designs are typically much less taxing. The Futura graphs look more like the old designs, which may simply mean that they...
Ripping CD's - Bypassing Computer CD Player
The transport in a CD player has to deliver the bits without retries for data errors given the need to deliver the bits in real time. The drive in a computer is not under any real time constraints, so it can resample as much as necessary to get an...
software for converting to digital?
I would consider Vinyl Studio. It does not have as many options as Audacity to modify the sound, but my guess is you will probably not use those Audacity features anyway. Vinyl Studio does have one big advantage in that it can lookup your album in...
Chord Hugo ?
Steve - the Hugo requires the USB +5V signal to turn on the HD circuits. As I understand it, that means your filter should not be used with the Hugo, since the filter stops the +5V signal from getting to the Hugo. Correct me if I am wrong.

Winson - I am sorry you feel I was too critical, but I do think you should have been more straightforward about the price. People can look up the prices but since you knew them why not supply them. Comparing the Hugo to units that are 4 to 12 time...
Chord Hugo ?
Wisnon - Please, add the prices of the units you listened to. It is relevant to the discussion. The idea that a next generation unit at a much higher price may sound better is hardly a revelation. Look, I know you are annoyed by the earlier passin...
Chord Hugo ?
In_shore - For testing, I would start with standard redbook tracks, ones you know well. For most people, redbook is the vast majority of their music. One of the advantages of the Hugo is its ability to play 16/44. Since you have a SACD player, try...

Chord Hugo ?
Wisnon - agreed - I would love a Qute version of the Hugo, but from their comments it seems like they are going to do the QBD version first, which means a Qute version may be quite a way off. One would think a Qute version would be pretty easy to ...
