HDCD Decoding ? For those who are going to PC audio, there is software, such as dBpoweramp, that will do the 16 bit to 20 bit conversion for HDCDs. It then pads it with zeros to 24 bits. You just check a box when you do the rip.
center speaker to match Sonus Faber Concertino? The Solo Home was the center sold with the Concertino Home. It, unfortunately, in my opionion, was the weak link in the line. It's single mid-range just does not provide much punch. The Piccolo is a better choice, but, as you said, hard to find. I...
Connecting Windows PC to DAC You can use a usb to digital interface. Most have RCA outputs but you could use a RCA to XRL adapter. Some have XRL outputs, but they are more expensive. You also need to decide if you want 24/192 or not. Not sure if you DAC has that or not. Here a...
Is HDtracks really selling you Hi-Rez music? J River also converts DSD to PCM. The trick is to get a DSD file from a SACD, which is doable but not easy.
What's wrong with my system? The Arcam has a headphone jack. That is what I was suggesting. It goes through different amps and trying it would help understand if the 40 watt/channel was the issue. If there is plenty of bass through the headphones, then there is an issue with ...
Is HDtracks really selling you Hi-Rez music? Dollysowner - I agree that HDTracks does not do their own remastering and they do not simply up convert CDs. The company that provides the files to HDTracks may up convert, but HDTracks does not do it themselves. And, I think we are seeing less an...
Thiel CS1.7 loudspeaker I am not sure what the final price of the 1.6 was, but at $5495, the 1.7 is basically twice the price of the 1.6. That is a huge jump and leaves a real gap at the "entry" level. The SCS4T is something like $3,700 and I do not believe it has been v...
What's wrong with my system? Can you try headphones or another set of speakers? How about connecting a sub-woofer to see if that produces bass? Or can you get some test tones and a db meter and see how the system measures?
Best AV receiver to use as an AV pre amp A 2 channel pre-amo is just one extra component not a separate system but if you do not have room it for then I would consider Marantz and NAD. Even the NAD 748 would probably sound better than the Denon, altgough it does not have room correction.
Best AV receiver to use as an AV pre amp How about a 2 channel pre-amp with home theater bypass? I think that would be a better investment that another receiver. Changing between Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo is probably not going to make much difference. Many think Marantz receivers are a step u...
Converting Flac to Wav & Upconversion Mapman - async USB puts the timing and request under the control of the external device, not under the control of the PC. The USB device is optimized for that and does not have other functions to distract it. So, all the PC and player have to do i...
Converting Flac to Wav & Upconversion Mapman - with many people using aysnc USB the real time nature of the PC is minimal. All it really has to do is keep the buffer full and not get in the way of the aysnc USB requests. Filling the buffer is just not that hard. It is hard to understa...
iPad "Remote" App for iTunes Does JRemote allow you to stream the music back to the iPad or iPhone? That is one of the features of Gizmo I like. However, the Gizmo interface is far from sexy. Also, I think JRmote does not work on Android and Gizmo does not work on Apple.
Took my Levinson amp in for repair There are caps available for sale currently on this site - just search for Mark Levinson. You would want to check on authenticity, but they sound like the real deal.
iPad "Remote" App for iTunes JRiver has a similar app (Gizmo) for its Media Center system. Gizmo is not as flashy as Apple's Remote, but it works fine of Android phones and tablets. It can connect on my local network or remotely through the Internet. So, I can connect to my h... |
