Frequency Range - Bookshelf Speakers
I'm not sure too many bookshelf speakers can go down to 30Hz. If they can, and you are just using them for mostly 2-channel stereo music listening, I think it would be better to skip the subwoofer altogether.
MBL 121 to full range speaker
I haven't heard OHM, but I can say MBLs are amongst the best speakers I've heard. I love that omnidirectional sound! Just the wide, holographic expanse of the soundstage is phenomenal. I'm definitely interested in hearing an OHM demo myself, now, ...
B&W 703 front and HTM7center low end speakers ??
Whoever you were talking to is talking out of his rear-end. The 700 series is certainly not the "low end" of the B&W range, in fact, they are near the "high end" with only the 800 series being "better".Under the 700 series, there is the CM ser...
This funny
The OP highlights the "problem" with many of the "hi-end" "snake-oil" peddlers in the industry. No doubt many of the products ARE excellent, but certainly they are priced way beyond of what they are actually "worth", even with costs and profits co...
Wilson Alexandria V2
The Alexandria X-2 is a mind-blowing speaker, way better than MAXX 2, which is an awesome speaker in itself. Obviously you need a big room for the X-2s, though I assume you have one since you owned the MAXXs.Microdynamics is astounding and the att...
Upgrading from B&W 601 S2 to ???
Definitely look into the B&W 685. Familiar look to the 601 S2, but much improved performace and at $650, exactly in your price range. It also sounds good with classical.
How does smoke effect speakers?
Depends on the kind of smoke you're talking about, but it can either make your speakers sound like they are firing straight into your brain and especially with multi-channel music, make your feel like you are getting the most insane head massage, ...
The best "imaging" speakers?
MBL 101Es. By far the most realistic soundstage and imaging speaker I've ever heard. Perhaps not so much "realistic" but "HYPER realistic". You are not only there, but you've shrunk a couple of sizes and everything is "lifelike", but also "GIANT"!...
5.1 vs 7.1
It all depends on the size of your room and your seating position. If your room is large enough to benefit from 7.1 and you can place surrounds speakers BEHIND you as well as on the sides, then it would be worth it.There are increasingly more Blu-...
With $20,000 in your hand, what speaker would you
This is an easy question - add two grand to the budget and get a pair of B&W 800Ds. For the money, the best all-around speaker in its price class. Many speakers will do SOME things better than the 800D, but no speaker I've listened to in this ...
Room size suitable for which Wilsons?
Wilsons generally need large rooms. You may get away with a pair of Sophis, at most, for your room, but forget about WATT/Puppys or any of the MAXX series. WATT/Puppys and up are great speakers, but will sound awful in a smallish room. Not worth i...
Most agreed upon best speaker?
MBL is better than Wilson, but BOSE is the best!
Wilson Sophia 2's on Marantz Reference
Thanks Blindjim, yes I agree, there are definitely sub-genres even within the narrow confines of "high-end".To me, there are some companies that are EXCLUSIVELY "high-end", such as Rockport as you mentioned, and Wilson, Magico and Kharma, for exam...
Wilson Sophia 2's on Marantz Reference
No worries, your opinion is welcome and respected. As for clarification of when I said $14,000 is "entry-level" for the "high-end", I'm referring strictly to that class of manufacturers where $14,000 really is the entry-level and barely buys you a...
Wilson Sophia 2's on Marantz Reference
Well obviously to each his own, and certainly as YOU are paying for your speakers, you are entitled to YOUR opinion! The Sophia 2s do cost more than the 802Ds, and that unfortunately has an effect on many people when comparing the two. No doubt Wil...
