Tidal removing all MQA
The HDTracks linkup with Lenbrook is not a done deal, and may never be. They need to develop a service model and pricing strategy that is competitive with the established names. The need for special playback circuitry will be an impediment. I own ...
So, a reviewer just said something I need to talk about.
I still use early Rod Stewart and Van Morrison recordings to judge my system changes for this very reason…those records convey both a high quality of sonic representation, AND a joy of musical spontaneity that engages and excites me.  “Cut Across ...
All Hail the meek --yet mighty – NODE 2i
I work in an audio store part time, and all of us are dinosaurs.  We sell Bluesound and have had a hard time finding something better that isn’t crazily expensive. I personally use an N130 with an LHY LPS and a Mytek Liberty DAC via USB to stream ...
Suggestions for testing a never installed, 20-year boxed amp.
Pyramid does good work. And they are a Harman authorized servicer.
Need recommendations on 15ft speaker cables
My advice is to buy a high quality but affordable cable set to use as a benchmark before spending big money.  Erik mentioned Mogami, and Canare is another, both available from World's Best Cables on Amazon, see: Canare 4S11 or Mogami 3082 Once yo...
12 wire compared to Nordost Blue Heaven Speaker Cable?
As a long time slave in the mines of mid-fi, let me help OP with this. The Denon DRA-697CI is a very good mid-fi receiver. When it was current it sold for around $800.00 iirc, so it is not an entry level item, and has a fairly unusual feature set ...
Difference between Bluesound Node, Node 2, Node 2i, NodeX
The X also implemented the low output impedance THX headphone circuit and replaced the 3.5mm headphone jack with a 6.3mm.  That’s in addition to employing the ESS Sabre DAC, which the other Nodes did not. As a front end only, the N130 should be id...
Need some treble
The B135 has pre-out and main-in jacks. Buy an equalizer. The Schiit ones are good, but a vintage 10 or 12 band in good working order is better. Audio Control, ADC, Soundcraftsman, Pioneer, etc.  Check your local repair shop. Or contact Vince at a...
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
I think of a Golden Age as a time when obstacles were overcome and a spate of innovation took the art to a higher level.  The mature vacuum tube era of Marantz 9 and McIntosh MC275 through MC2301. The application of Theil-Small filter theory to re...
My Remote on my preamp has stopped working
Ask a system integrator if the URC database has the codeset. If so, any URC remote can be used. For cheap, a UEI remote can also, if it has the codeset.
KEF LS50 Meta
For that price, run don’t walk!  But I agree with bdp24…they need a sub. I like REL but Rhyrhmix come highly recommended. Beware used subwoofers…they lead hard lives, and amp failure is common.
Static on turntable
Do you have wall to wall carpeting?  Is it synthetic fiber?  These are potential contributors to static discharge.  You could try a humidifier.  But for prompt relief…Zerostat.
Solid state amp vs tube amps
No one has mentioned the output impedance of tubed amps vs. that of SS amps. The higher impedance typically found in tube amps makes them more load dependent, and can introduce audible variations in system response based on the speaker’s reactance...
How to get AirPlay into my older system.
+1 for WiiM.  They make 3 levels of product…the Mini, the Pro and the Pro plus.  Priced under $100, around $150, and in the low $200s.  The app is very simple to use, and all have toslink out.  Be as frugal as you choose.  The use of digital out e...
**Smoking integrated tube amp, advice needed:
Other than misusing the term input when you meant output, your setup sounds perfectly all right…assuming the white speaker terminal is labeled negative or 0.  If the amp is set up correctly for your voltage, it was defective.  You should return it.
