FirstWatt SIT-3 or Pass Labs XA25 for Avalon Indras?
Hi Alberto, Suggest you read the stereophile review from Herb Reichert if Jan 2019if you have not done already. The choice of speakers is very important as they suggest. This is why I went with the XA25 since I have Harbeth 30.2. Another consider...
Alternative to Zyx Ultimate Airy
Have you looked at the Hana Umami blue? An Absolute sound Best Buy in 2024.
The Allure of Vintage Audio Gear
I had a Heybrook TT2 with an Alphason HRS100 MCS tonearm and external power supply . Compared it side by side with new TT s above 5k$ and it beat them hands down. Was still going fine since 1985 until I sold it recently. Talk about value for the m...
Speakers or Turntable upgrade
IMHO, Rega is good for someone who prefers a plug and okay approach but like mediium _grade mentionned. You can get a better sounding TT in that price point. I owned a P10 myself and while it is a very fine engineered pice of equipment it was disa...
An integrated bargain?
Simaudio is a reputable quality brand with a 10 year warranty program. After that it becomes a matter of sound preference at similar price point. I agree with kerrybh about the 390 - pream with integrated DAC and phono stage of high quality and fu...
New cartridge ideas...
Good options you are looking at. Bigger bang for the buck may be Lyra Delos. Any reason you did not include Hana on your short list? ML may be a good option. Best would be Umami Blue if you can stretch your budget. Even better than Delos IMHO kee...
What's my best upgrade options
Agree with many that upgrade of the sources are a good next step. Also agree that going from rega P3 to P6 will not yield much benefit. I purchased a P10 last year and put it on the market the next day. My old Heybrrook TT2 with a Alphason HRS-100...
critique my setup -- weak link? best way to improve?
Further to my earlier comment and to reinforce some of our colleagues like jrareform here is a link to help prioritize and invest in the different components, if that can help. It also recommends to spend the bulk on speakers, then on the source,...
critique my setup -- weak link? best way to improve?
There are two school of thoughts. Start with the source (the sound can never be better than the source gives you) or start with the speakers to get the overall sound you want for a given room (each speaker has its own sound signature). For my firs...
Need Opinions for Different Cable Manufacturers/Cable Designs
Another vote for Cardas. Got the Clear Rev.1 for RCA and it blew me away. Tried some Clear reflection speaker . Not as good as Clear rev1 . Another one is Luna. Not very well known yet. But one of the best ratio price quality .
JA Pulsars vs Harbeth 30.2
Very interesting dilemma. I have the Harbeth 30.2 40th anniversary. It is one of the best if not the best monitor speaker around. For those who like the monitor sound. A big plus is its midrange, fluidity and ability to convey lifelike instruments...
That Transformational piece of Gear We All Wish For
Interestingly, each move I've made was worthwhile. The PassLab XA25 class A amp is at the top of the list. But strangely enough it is the Cardas Clear interconnect that I got from a closing audio store with it that blew me away. It made everything...
Suggestions for power amps
I have the Pass X25. Outstanding amp for the price. Very reliable. Warm to neutral sound with lots of reserve. Works best when really warm. One of the last pieces I would upgrade in my system, if at all.
Does a turntable mat make any difference?
The Funk Firm Achromat is one of the greatest mats available. I have used it on high end Rega P10 and Linn LP12. It DOES a make a significant difference . Bass is tighter and the high notes clearer. The Linn dealer was skeptical and when he heard ...
Going to replace my Fluance rt85
I fully agree that a used TT will get get you better value for the money. Once you decide on the TT I would then shop to upgrade the phono stage to match the turntable you got. As a principle, IMHO it is better to start with the source and work on...
