Best female vocal recording on CD? Finally I must give a shout out for Judith Owen, all her recordings are first rate, maybe start with this ("Train out of Hollywood")https://youtu.be/7RavSWS_pso
Best female vocal recording on CD? Surprised btw that no-one has mentioned Janis Ian "Breaking Silence" yet -- I know it’s an audiofool chestnut but it really is a superb recordingAnd finally here’s one to mess with your head
Best female vocal recording on CD? @meiatflask I think you're obsessing about recording quality a bit too much -- the true measure of a system should be how well it presents the musical event irrespective of the recording (i.e. it finds all that can be found even in a mediocre reco...
Best female vocal recording on CD? Some suggestions from the folk genre (as you might expect)Mary Chapin Carpenter -- maybe start with "Between Here and Gone" or "Stones in the Road"Nanci Griffith -- "Other Voices, Other Rooms: her covers CD is a great mix, or try "Flyer" if you wa...
Why does it take so many hours to brea in arc preamps and amps? It's generally put down to the time needed to break in the Teflon caps. I've had a Ref 2 phono SE for four years now and still only up to 391 hours ... and I'm not sure I can tell you if it's changing as over this long a timeframe lots of other th...
Amplifier Enclosure Resonance I have had great results with Shakti stones. Not too heavy and as well as damping they deal with issues from transformers. The size suits your needs. Btw have you also tried Herbies tube dampers? Check this thread for what to expecthttps://forum.a...
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable? @dynaquest4 I suspect it is your use of the term "rubber feet" when the Sort Fut is aluminium, bronze and ceramic with no rubber at all -- implying you have done no research and have no real interest nor belief in the value of vibration controlI’v...
The Palladian-A step beyond Ha, no free 💰 screws for me 😺 (or will that comment get me censored) -- and I've not even had a response from the distributor yet as to how I can buy them! But maybe the New Year will bring me gifts 😏
Anyone replace the batteries in their AudioQuest DBS packs? I just recently replaced all mine. Did I hear a difference? Not sure, especially as it takes few days for the DBS fields to fully form so not that easy to do quick comparisons. Mine were five or more years old as well. Anyway if yours are more tha...
Power conditioner @ctsooner -- please hold off on selling your Powercell until after you have had the circuits installed and have a chance to listen with/without. The two are not mutually exclusive and I would consider both dedicated lines and suitable power condit...
Quack System Upgrades @asvjerry I'd hate to send someone off looking for that Heinlein reference 😉 which actually seems to be an obscure book of his. Besides Blish could use some more attention, he's a sorely underrated author
The Palladian-A step beyond @ct0517 more interesting Mary Chapin facts and LPs/CDs to look up if you don't already have themFirstly did you know that "Stones in the Road" was written for and first recorded by Joan Baez -- available on LP too on her "Play me Backwards" disc?A...
Quack System Upgrades @asvjerry I think you have your sci-fi references mixed up. "Spindizzy" is the anti-gravity technology from James Blish's "Cities in Flight" series https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spindizzy
The Palladian-A step beyond @ct0517 if you like Mary Chapin I hope you got her latest "The Things That We Are Made Of" on Vinyl -- well worth it for "Note on a Windshield" alone. My favorite of her LPs is "Come On, Come On" which is rare as hens teeth on vinyl but well worth... |
