Deals Gone Bad
Research the person you are buying from and make sure they are who they say they are and they have had a presence for years instead of someone who just pops up to sell something. I find pictures of them (if at all possible) and their current addre...
I want to buy new speakers for 50,000 and see it used for 30,000, what should I do?
It depends on how much $20,000 means to you.... if it is nothing then buy new. If it is something then go look at and listen to them before you buy used. I've bought several used speakers and always worked out but not at the price range you are lo...
Upgrade Interconnects/Cables or…?
Oops... the cables I mentioned were $40 not 12 something... my mistake. They sound really good though.
You're not a true audiophile unless...
Anyone who has actually bought a piece of audio equipment a little out of their comfort zone with the intention of making the music sound better to them. Anyone who is reading this thread. Anyone who buys one of many audiophile publications and ...
Upgrade Interconnects/Cables or…?
I can't believe what happened. I was changing around my system and needed cables a little longer than 1m. I wanted silver coated cables for sound quality and searched amazon. And there they were... 4ft silver coated cables.... the price made me th...
How do I discharge the capacitors in my PS audio P20 ?
noromance... this is do as I suggest not as I do. I have a 12 guage wire open at both ends taped to two round dowels and I just touch them to each pole. You do this at your own risk as the capacitor may go away. I haven't had it happen but it can....
How do I discharge the capacitors in my PS audio P20 ?

Warm, yet detailed tube preamp

Would you still pay $10k or more for a turntable not full analog front end these days ?
No, I think I could find a good turntable for $3500 or less that would fit me just fine.
Does it have to sound good for you to like it?
Yup has to sound good or it will grate on me enough to the point where I will get rid of it.
For city apartment dweller audiophiles. Have you ever had neighbors banging on your walls?
I had a condo on the beach and played music often. I asked 3 different couples who rented the condo next door if they could hear my music and they all said no they couldn't. Then one day I was walking out my door and there was a note on my door sa...
Reel to Reel
I have 4 of them who sit there and look pretty. I don't play them often and rarely. I think you may end up doing the same thing.
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
The golden age of music started in 1955 and ended when the calendar turned to January 1st 1980 for the most part with some exceptions. That is different from the question asked about the audiophile golden age. I think technology has continued to i...
Electric bill any high
One big problem is if one coil on a water heater burns out the other starts taking the place for two and will cause your electricity bill to double. It happened to me and one of my daughters found that out. My electricity bill isn't affected by my...
Surge protector
I use Furman on all of my stereo equipment which makes me feel as comfortable as I can. Plugging equipment directly into the wall is a disaster waiting to happen and a very expensive one too I might add.
