Jazz for aficionados Loved it. Yes, Dave Liebman. Al Foster on drums, Mtume on perc, Michael Henderson on bass. Don't recognize the guitar players.
Jazz for aficionados In spite of Miles' well-known ego (some would say arrogance), he was a true artist; the music always came first. I don't think he thought much about who would be able to make him a bigger star by virtue of that player's presence in the band. He wa...
Jazz for aficionados Loved the Garth Fagan clip. Thanks.
Jazz for aficionados Orpheus10, that recording of "On Green Dolphin Street" is classic; jazz just doesn't get better than this. Agree about Evan's intro. He was one of those pianists that had such a distinctive tone on the piano; an instrument that one thinks has a "b...
Why does most new music suck? ****I can accept Count Basie's records sounding awful, but not contemporary bands' that have at their disposal the most advanced recording technology and still release ear-bleeding music****Some of Basie's records sound awful for a lot of the same...
5751 Triple Mica - really that good? 5751's can sound great. But, don't fall into the trap of assuming that ANY 5751 will sound better than a good 12ax7 simply because it's a 5751. I have tried countless 12ax7 variants and while I really like my GE, Sylvania and Raytheon triple mica ...

Why does most new music suck? ****"Doomed to what?****Doomed to not being open to letting musical tastes grow and evolve. Not simply being open to new music in a given genre, but open to other genres that offer music created with more sophistication and a higher level of craft...

Jazz for aficionados How did it happen that the American public has gotten so far away from being able to appreciate production values like this. The feeling of sensuality in that scene is amazing. Today we get explicit sexuality as an attempt to make up the for the a...
Amplification for stacked quads? What don't you like about the EAR's on the Quads? Not a very practical recommendation, but to this day one of the most memorable systems I have heard was stacked Quads driven by Levinson ML-2 class A mono's; and I typically prefer tubes.
Why does most new music suck? ****44 years from now they'll be saying the same thing. ****I'm not so sure. Throughout history, there have been particularly great periods of creativity in the arts; and also particularly stagnant periods.
Jazz for aficionados Check this out. Killer arrangement, smoking rhythm section and great solos. Love the way that Valdes relaxes the time feel when he plays the well-known Zawinal melody over the drummer's simple but relentless and driving groove. Great stuff!http://... |
