Buy a pair of ten year old $40,000 speakers for $4,000 or new ones at that price point?
You aren't going to find a pair of decent $40k speakers for $4k anytime soon...

I don’t harbor any ill feelings toward black ash speakers...Walnut or oak now that is a different story. 
Recommendations for bookshelf speakers
The Polk 703 are very nice. I had the Lsim705 but they were too big for my office so I sold them. The 703 weigh about 30lbs each and are built very well.

Adding a sub will net you far more bass than just changing speakers. 
What are the speakers you very rarely find in the Used market(Audiogon or Anywhere)?

I made that mistake once...It sounded like someone shot a gun off in my room...Speakers were fine though.. 
An encounter and lesson in speaker prices ...
Maybe they wired them wrongly intentionally to make the $50k pair sound far better. 
Hey That's Not So Bad if It's Class D
I had the Red Dragon 500 mono amps and they were excellent. The bass hit harder with those amps than my Krell. 
Why the facination with integrated amps?
I've done both separates and integrated and there wasn't much difference between the two in sound quality. I prefer simplicity at this point and an integrated gives me that.  
What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why?
My two favorites.Dahlquist DQ-10Soundwave Grand SoliloquySold both and wish I hadn't!

I just bought the RN803 and will be returning it. It doesn't have enough power to drive my Polk 705 spkrs..Previously I had a Parasound 2250 driving them and they sounded great..With the RN803 they sound lifeless. I imagine that receiver might be ... 
Help for a Greenhorn: Devialet Phantom Reactor vs. KEF LS50 powered vs. Audio Pro Drumfire
I owned the powered LS50 for a short time. They sound like what they are...a small speaker...If you want something that fills a larger size room with good bass I would look at other options.
