Building a New Listening Room on a Budget I was really... really lucky when we bought our house... I accidentally chose a house with a near perfect listening area. My high audio guy says he has never heard one as good... and he has decades of experience installing many $200K systems. So, ...
Are Preamplifier’s Relevant Today or just a Hinderance with Digital Playback ? The overwhelmingm audiophile consensus is still yes to a preamp. In occasional instances where components are perfectly matched it works. But that is rare. There are quite a few folks that have tried it and gone back (stating exactly what Jond sai...
Processor question I think folks like me look to help with the situations greatest opportunity. Our experience immediately identifies the pitfalls of stereo audio in a home theater situation. So we try and be helpful. If separate systems cannot be done, then I can’...
Definitely lonely to be an audiophile Audiophilia tends to be a solo activity. Personally, I value my alone time more than anything. I am an only child, am inclined to deep reflection and learning. As a senior executive most of my career... you are really an island virtually always. ...
Newbie to Vinyl Seeks Tips The real question is what you ultimately find appealing about vinyl. It is, in general, still the the most cost effective sound quality at a given price... $1,000, $5,000, $25,000, or $100,000 per end. So that could be a reason. Sounds like you ha...
Equipment Maintenance/Cleaning Oh, we are supposed to clean our gear? My Roomba automatically vacuums the carpet. I guess I dust the speakers and component tops every year or so. I have all Audio Research Reference stuff, Sonus Faber Amati Traditional. I guess I get clean stuff...
system/room equalized flat from 20 to 20k cps--is yours? I bought a house that accidentally had fantastic acoustics for a high end audio system. It is better to be lucky than good.
Processor question I agree, you take a huge hit on your audio system by trying to do both. I stopped trying 20 years ago. So I have my audio system downstairs (in the largest room in the house), and my partner has her Home Theater upstairs in the living room. It is ...
Anyone using Luxman m900u with Audio Research Ref6 Ten minutes warm up time. Although I have some routines like getting up going downstairs, turning on my equipment, brushing teeth, get coffee, sit down and listen, so warm up time happens without a hassle... but the gear sounds great immediately, ...
Anyone using Luxman m900u with Audio Research Ref6 Since you have a ARC preamp and are talking about that kind o money definitely look at the ARC REF 160s. It is magic and the synergy with the other ARC equipment is incredible. I have Sonus Faber Amati Traditional speakers which have the same impe...
This budget phono preamp continues to amaze me. This is good to hear. My experience has been otherwise. It would be nice if you could acquire an excellent sounding phono stage for a reasonable price. On the other hand I am very happy with my Audio Research Reference 3 phono stage.
I must be old I am also getting old. I have been an audiophile for fifty years. My Weather Report album is a bit noisy. I have upgraded my system many times. But my analog end continues to be better, only by a little bit now. Since I am retired, sometimes I fee...
Possibly Ignorant Power Question The real measure of an amplifiers ability to drive speakers is current. Current is not a standard measurement, but you can indirectly measure it by measuring the watts at different impedance. Regardless of what speaker you are using you want the o...
What equipment should I invest in next? You are asking the question... so clearly there is a problem. You are not glued to your listening chair with a big smile on your face. You know there is more. I reach plateaus... where I am just plain happy. So, I recommend being really introspect...
Can you get proper imaging if speakers are not the same distance from center? Interesting question. I had AMTs for a decade or two. I think you are correct about straight forward pointing (no toe in). That to me means you can correct for the imbalance using the volume balance control to compensate for being off center.. |
