CJ vs. BAT vs. THOR preamps, who's best?
I have owned the Thor, CJ LS16 MKII and others. Love the Thor, but the CJ was just pure magic. So organic and musical. The CJ would be my choice. I had both in my system at the same time and the CJ had more body and texture with all of the detail o...
best time/worst time to sell equipment
Gear usually sells very slow just before Christmas as folks spend money on others and on gifts outside of audio. Peole are also busy with the events of the Holidays. This is a general comment only based on my selling experience during the year. I u...

Review: Mcalister Audio PP150S Tube amp
For some reason some of the spec data did not post on my review. The amp is rated at 75 watts per channel. The small front tubes are said to last for 10,000 hours while the output tubes will last for 5000 hours. Circuit is designed in a way to giv...
tube watts vs solid state watts
I am not so concerned with the location of the volume knob or which amp gives more volume on a given setting. That of coarse is dependent on the gain of the amp and the matching between the two components.I have experienced over and over that tube...
tube watts vs solid state watts
In agree with Tireguy in terms of how to buy an amp. But as a general answer to your direct question - tubes do play louder.Bill
mcintosh & big $ interconnects
I owned the Mac MC402 amp and wow! Anyway, the best IC I have heard on them is an IC that I think has the same sonic signature or personality as Mac. Look here on the Gon for Component Plus IC's. They are outstanding with Mac gear. Both the regular...
tube watts vs solid state watts
No, the tube sounds much louder in my experience. A a general rule tube amps sound about 30-50% louder then SS amps of the same spec output. This is a general rule. Some amps are speced lower than the actual output like Aloia SS amps and others. H...

I fixed the issue by buying a $5 hard rubber bunge and cutting into strips and placing it under the transformer. I then tightened the whole thing down. Now it is much more quiet. Cant hear it from where I sit.Neat way to qiet down transformers.Bill
Why so many amplifiers for sale?
I am to blame for many as I try one after the other. Ha! I think I have found the answer. We all like change as our ears become bored or used to a particular sound. Often times we think another amp sounds better, but in fact it simply sounds diffe...

My tube amp power supply is buzzing away Help
The unit is plugged into a BPT 2. I am going to try this. Open up the unit and place the transformer on four cut strips of hard rubber. I will then tighen down the bolts using the rubber as both a washer and underpad.I called Pete from Mcalister a...
Review: VMPS RM40 Speaker
I have an audio friend that went through the same experience you have. I listened to his system over the course of 6 months as he tried to get the VMPS RM40's to sound good. He has a dedicated room with great gear in front of it. All the tweaking ...
