Question about high current amps versus "not high current amps"
Hi, high current amplifier is one that is designed to deliver large amounts of current (amperes), when needed, typically low impedance speakers. They have very robust power supplies -- i.e. large transformers, capacitor banks, high-performance tra...
Would I be wasting my money to get a turntable?
As above and more to the point, do you have an LPs collection to play & listen to?
Tweaking Your Speaker Placement
@tony1954  Once the speakers are correctly placed in the room (i.e. they couple optimally), any slight movement has an easily perceptible sonic effect. Since optimising speaker placement is, obviously, room dependent, I imagine we shouldn't take...
Tweaking Your Speaker Placement
"Depending on the speakers an 1/8” move in the right way can have a significant impact." You have realised, of course, that it's a figure of speech -- not a literal statement? Kudos, however, for creating a discussion out of it!
My wife weighed in…she wants piano white tower/bookshelf
How about active speakers that look futuristic, play well, and can adapt to the room (i.e. dsp). These are the Cabasse pearl (I think). I heard them at a friend's house & at shows - they are very pleasant.
DSD coming to Qobuz streaming?
DSD would be nice but, imho, multichannel would be better.  Agreed
From Sonus Faber Extrema to...
Aggree with @oddiofyl above -- sacrificing the Extremas + a few k will NOT buy you significantly better speakers... Maybe the Eidolons - if they're going for very cheap nowadays BUT the sound is far from what you're used to. IMO, the best thing t...
What are good options for re-wiring an SME 3009 tone arm?
What he said above. First find the tech, then order the equipment you want - e.g. you might chat with the Vinyl Source people...
What exactly is PRaT???
While I understand where our friend, above, "actor, singer, stage director and audiobook narrator" is coming from, the acronym’s origins are different. They were brilliantly marketed (perhaps coined, I don’t know) many decades ago by the owner of...
Bookshelf or stand mount help please
Why not offer your duahgter s/thing that can sonically challenge your own system and look good (it is your daughter, after all): Cabasse -- if you can, the Akoya. They are active, include a DAC & room correction s/ware, they sound excellent (e...
CD Player: Vintage or modern ones?
The only old CDP's worth considering AS TRANSPORTS are the TEACs, as in the VRDS mentioned above. TEAC had excellent transport mechanisms, even in their less fancy models (they still do, but it's now called "esoteric" and costs a fortune). Digita...
new member, some questions, need help please
Do speakers lose their magic to an extent that renders them less capable to a significant extent after 15-18 years Hardly - people use speakers from the ’40s with great success. The question is, are you STILL captivated by the sound of these sp...
Sound insulation advice for home theater room in middle of the house?
An alternative to the above, try these people Generally speaking, however, you will have a hard time taming bass resonances in that smallish room! Mass behind the couch is one way -- but you don;t seem to have much room there either
Proac Response 3.8 stereo imaging is not centered
Presumably you have listened to the tweeter, putting your hand over the mid-bass unit that follows jsut to check? Likewise with the top mid-bass unit? This might help you single out which unit has lower amplitude. Otherwise (assuming it's not ju...
New speakers for 15*12 room powered by Lamm 1.2s?
I suggest you upgrade your DAC before you sacrifice the Thiels. The 7.2 are good speakers and I have never heard them sound too bright. The Lamm is an excellent amp (my subjective opinion) and I’ve never heard it sound harsh / bright either... Wh...
