Jazz Boxsets
The Smithsonian put out a 5 CD, 6 hour set called "The Smithsonian Collection of Jazz" that covers 50 years or so of jazz, pretty much everything from Jelly Roll Morton through Ornette Coleman. Try that and see what you would like to explore furth...
Ok it is time for my dumb question on the day
Regulators are good for several reasons. If the supply voltage to a stage sags in use then then the stage is drawing more current than the supply can continously supply, and this may be audible. A well designed regulator will also by definition ke...
Crossovers
It's not quite as complex as the first post states. Let's say you have a two way system and you want the crossover point to be 1000 Hz. The crossover separates the frequencies so each driver gets the appropriate ones, below 1000 to the woofer, abo...
Cool strings finds
Thanks for your review, I am always on the lookout for good performances. I think we sometimes get caught up in sonics and ignore the performance.
Non inverting polarity?
You are correct that some manufacturers use 2 for non-inverted and some use 3.All sound starts out being single ended in the sense that there are compressions and rarefactions in the air that can be coverted to a corresponding electrical signal wi...
Canon to RCA adaptors
Edesilva, Canon is synonymous with XLR. They were first manufactured by Canon with a part number that started with XLR and both terms became common ways to refer to them. I would go with adapters. Cheaper.
Why doesn't my receiver work?
Turn the receiver on with nothing hooked up to it. If the display is still blank then it needs to be serviced.Unless it is physically damaged I don't think you'll have much luck with the movers. They will claim they had nothing to do with it, and ...
Well, it LOOKS like crap...
If you put a litte dab of caulk or whatever on the top and bottom of some of the tennis balls they would stick to the shelves and not roll around. Or cut them so they have a flat side. Or drive nails through the shelf so they stick up an inch or s...
which solder do you recommend?
If done properly the solder actually forms an alloy with the wire. The molecules from the solder intermingle with the molecules of the wire. If the wire is tarnished the solder will roll off. Flux is corrosive and eats away whatever tarnish is on ...
Room size-how do I determine speaker size?
The common misconception is that in small rooms the low frequencies must build up in the room to be heard. What we hear is due to compressions and rarefactions in the air. As the cone of the speaker moves back and forth it creates these variations...

18 X 24 is a small room??? I guess we live in different economic circles but I know of very few homes that have a room that big.Set your system up. Use the rug. Talk to Nathan at Eighth Nerve about treating your room. His stuff really works and i...

CRT still rules unless you can't handle the depth of the cabinet.

How is your many titles in your digital collection
Sorry if I upset you, that was not my intention. I too am curious and I fully understand your disbelief that they are hitting those numbers. I merely pointed out that your question had absolutely no relation to what you were trying to ascertain. I...
Will this isolation transformer limit power draw?
The hiss is normal with a lot of amps. If you can't hear it from the listening position I wouldn't worry about it. The hum from the speakers doesn't suprise me especially with an amp that old. The filter caps should be replaced in a 19 year old am...
