Question about polarity-inverting preamps
I was going to let this one go by, but Rockvirgo's post begs a response. It's got a few problems. On single ended inputs the signal goes both positive and negative with respect to the chassis. The preamp does not "generate" a missing negative half...
Where can I get RAM super low noise tubes?
Last time I talked to Audio Advisor they told me they are getting out of the tube business. All the tubes on the web site are marked CLEARANCE. They don't have any 12AX7 listed.
What would you do about a sleazy buyer??
Sorry to hear you got jerked around. You could start a thread on lawyer jokes.
Best Engineered Album, - Diana Krall ?????
I gave up on the grammys a few years ago when Michael Bolton got best male performer. I have purchased several turntable systems from the Needle Doctor. Each time I was given a substantial discount from the retail price and was given excellent adv...
Why is 2 Channel better than multi-channel?
For the past 50 years or so people have been working to optimize the sound of the hardware in a 2 channel system. They have also been working to optimize the sound of 2 channel recordings. Then a few years ago multi-channel recordings were introdu...
Help with voltage on amp
Well everybody is partly correct. The voltage in Japan is 100 volts. The eastern half of the island is 50 hertz and the western half is 60 hertz. Those are facts. The rest is an educated guess. I assume it is designed to function properly on either...
Advise On Tubes For Vac 30/30
I have a set of Western Electric 300B tubes in my VAC 30/30 and there is no hum. I have the ground connection lifted on the power cord with a cheater to minimize hum but that was not tube dependent. I would suspect a bad tube. Does it hum in both ...
money AND time. How do I get both?
That's 12 hours a day 7 days week. That is also ridiculous.I don't know what your definition of "plenty of money" is, but there is not enough money in the world to make me work that much. Life is too short. There is too much to do.

Would you sleep better at night if.....
$2500 is a lot of money. I can't imagine that you would be better off spending that on some other component than cables. You could buy a decent analog rig and a bunch of albums for that kind of money. Don't get hung up on equipment, buy some music.

Amplifier Transformer Hum
Sometimes the hum is caused by a light dimmer. The dimmer works by chopping off AC cycles and this generates a lot of electrical noise. Torroidal (donut shaped) transformers are especially susceptible to this. When the light in my range hood is on...
Rodney Crowell, anyone heard the Cicadas?
The Cicadas was a group that included Crowell. As far as I know they put out one album in 1997. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002NDA/qid=1013958229/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-0750570-6113750
Against everything that high end cables stand for
My Dear Msnloeth, I can hear the difference between many different cables. I stated my belief that cables do indeed make a difference in my previous post. My point is that the equation "more expensive = sounds better" is not always true. I have au...
Against everything that high end cables stand for
After years of trial and error I have found that cables are highly system dependent no matter what they cost. The cost of $40 or $4000 has little to do with how they sound with your system. You have evidently found a set of cables with properties ...
