Is it possible for a high end manufacturer to overprice their goods?
@kokakolia  I've had more problems with reliability from the mass market manufacturers then with the small boutique manufacturers.
Audio Research REF 6 to REF 6SE upgrade.
Same as my Ref 750s. Those are here to stay for good. Hopefully you have good air conditioning, those amps will generate a lot of heat. I bought a krell amp from a guy that was using the audio research 610T amps with the kt120 upgrade, and he h...
AES/EBU cable shootout
I've was a professional sound mixer for 35 years and no one uses audiophile cables in a studio or while recording the very largest film productions. I wonder how the final product can be better (more fidelity) than the originally captured product...
Audio Research REF 6 to REF 6SE upgrade.
@dinov  because of brand recognition, they charge more than it's worth.
Prospectives on Chi-Fi
@tablejockey  what you are saying is absolutely true, but very sad at the same time.
Solid State Power Amps That Sound Most Like Tubes?
@sedond  too bad Bob carver could not do it in production. By the way this is an old thread, and Geoff isn't here anymore.

Well I would think resale value means a lot.  Most of the time less money is lost on the smaller manufacturers equipment because it's a less expensive to begin with.  I really don't care about brand recognition, only sound quality and reliabili...

Besides pride of ownership and resale value, I've found that the small manufacturers of tube equipment have better sound for way less money than the well known brands.
ARC REF 6 upgraded by ARC.
It's a tube preamp, not that complicated to work on, you probably would get more for your money with a smaller tech like bigkidz.
Speakers sounding dull? MUST READ! The truth about speaker design!
How do you even know that the sound of a speaker is actually accurate, I don't think any speaker made is truly accurate, especially when you add a room into the equation.
Rogue Audio. Reliability issues? Anyone?
@wolf_garcia  I've had the same experience as you, the tube equipment is more reliable than the solid state equipment I've owned.
Is it possible for a high end manufacturer to overprice their goods?
I don't see what the big deal is, the wealthy can afford more expensive cars, houses , boats, food, and many other things. Obviously most of these super expensive pieces of audio gear are not overpriced, look at Dan D'Agostino audio, their relentl...
Modifying Crossovers
@falmgren you really think they used the best crossover parts that the could have for $11k? Did they use all silver wire in them?  They may also use lower quality crossover parts because of availability.
We should reject hard-to-drive speakers more often
@phusis  I couldn't agree with you more about overly damped bass.
Modifying Crossovers
You can make a high end speaker sound better with better capacitors and resistors, but you have to experiment with different brand caps and resistors, before you figure out what brand will sound better than the ones the speakers came with.
