Random thoughts from a sort of, kind of audiophile
Broadstone, I enjoyed, understood, and appreciated your post. I also switched to tube (SET 300B) amplification, although I hadn't owned any planar or electrostatic speakers. I did have to switch from low sensitivity speakers, to a bit higher sensi...
dynaudio consequence suspension rings for woofers
Jon, I did some further checking, and found something that may be worth looking into. Look up Bill Legall at Millersound. He's recommended by Madisound for Dynaudio, and services their woofers.Contact number: (215) 412-7700Regards,Dan
dynaudio consequence suspension rings for woofers
I assume you are talking about the woofer surrounds. As far as I know, they are replaceable on most speakers. You could try contacting the folks at Speakerex, they sell surround replacement kits for most major manufacturers, and also service them....
How Do Left & Right Brains Like AT ART9 vs Dynavectors 17D3, XX2, XX2mkII vs Ortofons
I have two main cartridges I use, a Soundsmith re-tipped XX2MKII, and a Zu Denon 103R with ESCCO white sapphire cantilever/Paratrace stylus upgrade. I tend to prefer the 103R for most of my listening, it just seems to be more natural-sounding ( I ...
Devore O/96 with Class A Solid State Amps
Hi Bill,It's great to hear you're getting some quality listening time. For guys like us (and gals), it's a great thing. Some may think me crazy, but to take advantage of available listening time, all my listening must occur between approximately 1...
Devore O/96 with Class A Solid State Amps
While I can't speak to the pairing of Devore 0/96's (or any other Devore speaker), I regularly switch between a 9 Wpc SET 300B, and a Class D 500 Wpc amp with my vintage Tannoy HPD 315's.Both pairings sound astonishingly good, which leaves me not ...
Class D Audio Brand does not honor warranty---AVOID!!
Tom is a very busy guy. I think he means well, but is doing too much with too little, it seems. I have built a couple of their kits, one I converted to a three channel with an additional amp module, the other, I installed an additional module to r...
bent cantilever
It may be a non-issue, if it's not too far off being centered. When you align your cartridge, make it so the cantilever is straight, not the cartridge body. There may be no difference in how it sounds, as long as it's aligned properly.Best of luck...
Input/Output line level transformers for digital glare
I agree with Ralph and Al. Just last night, I decided to listen to a CD of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos that was previously unlistenable on my former CD player. To my surprise, my Esoteric DV 60, which I bought used a while back, made this CD sound...
I need advice.
Gary,as far as I know, replacing caps can make a difference. The price quoted for the work is very reasonable, but I would inquire as what replacement caps are being used. You'll want make sure they are equivalent in quality to what came in the am...
Need help deciding complete analog turntable set-up with Classe and B&W HT
You really are at a crossroads. I re-entered analog around 12 years ago now, thinking I could get by with an inexpensive Project 'table, Sumiko cart, and Dynavector phono stage. It wasn't long before dissatisfaction reared its ugly head. It wasn't...
TurnTable Quest
I graduated from a VPI Signature Scout to a Garrard 401, DIY plinth (they came without a plinth when bought new, back in the day), Dynavector 501 arm, and Zu Denon 103R cart. The idler drive is an exceptionally good drive system, the 301 and 401 G...
Help me choosing an Integrated Amp
In addition to the comment regarding Class D, I decided to try Class D, out of curiosity, more than anything. I know, in this context, what I'm about to say will sound ridiculous, but I bought a Class D Audio kit, and eventually added another amp ...
Wyred 4 Sound or PS Audio
Mark, while I don't have either a PS Audio or W4S component in my system, I do have a preamp that is a Grounded Grid kit from Transcendent Sound, that has some key upgrades, such as caps, tubes, attenuator and switching, but the main point is that...
CARY SACD Pro CD skipping Issues
Do some research on what transport mechanism/laser system is used in your machine. Find out where to purchase one, open your player up, and replace the transport. It's not much of a job, really, I've serviced McIntosh, Marantz, and Esoteric transp...
