The Horror After returning home from one of the old NYC Audio Shows around 1993 I was happy to listen to my current setup using KLH Nine full-range electrostatic speakers. The sound was so much better than anything I heard at the show, despite those systems ...
Your Ultimate Phono Preamp: Which One Would You Choose? I already have a world-beater preamp with phono stage: the RGR 4 from 1980. Designed by Roger Grodinski of RG Dynamics. Mr. Grodinski claims that most phono stages suffer from poor dynamic headroom so he designed his to have superior overload marg...
Whats playing on your system today? Two days ago: Lou Reed Transformer 1986 RCA CD on the 1989 Realistic 16 bit player. Excellent!
4x Upsampling On My Transport You can’t get more bits out of a CD! Digital is not like Analog where a phono cartridge with a line contact stylus will trace the grooves more accurately. You engage the switch hoping subconsciously to hear an improvement and voila there it is! Wh...
Not sure what to think Beyond a certain level of competent design all you are paying for is appearance/jewelry.
Not sure what to think The OP has proven to himself what I realized years ago that solid state gear has been a settled issue for quite some time! The truth that most here don't want to face is that proper circuit design/implementation levels the playing field between hi...
The Sound Signature of a Headphone Amp Just connect your phones directly to the ASR amp. I guess it has gain controls on the front. So use those for volume control.
Quandary The OP can buy a pair of Fosi V3 Monos with the 48 volt power supply for $280. They will do 120/240/330wpc@8/4/1ohms. Best bargain in amplification today!
When was the last time when serious new instrument was invented ? Composer Harry Patch was continually inventing new instruments throughout his life!
New Vandersteen Preamp L5-ACC - Axpona show report in Absolute Sound July/Aug issue Every new expensive preamp is a world-beater! LOL! Solid-state electronics have been a settled issue for decades!
Kenwood Trio L-05M My friend Les had a pair of L-07M’S and Symdex Sigma speakers. He sold the Kenwood’s and bought an NAD 3020. He raved about how much better the $199 NAD sounded!
Kenwood Trio L-05M If the price is right buy a pair. TAS reviewed the L-07M's back in the late 70's and liked them. The Audio Critic did the same and didn't like them. I'd buy a pair to add to my amp collection.
Quandary You'd be nuts to spend $300 on an audition! You don't need a new amp. The AHB2 is excellent and competitive with amps that cost way more!
Electric Recording Company How much? $100? That's way too much! I will listen to the CD instead!
How much should I expect with a warranty issue from a large retailer/distributor? Solidstate gear is a lot less fragile than you believe. Send it to MoFi. |
