Bluesound Node 2 vs. Node 2i
I don't have the original version to test, but I will say that, as a streamer, the Node 2i is a tremendous value. My primary streamer is a Bryston BDP-2 with upgraded audio card (essentially the same as the BDP-3 with a bit less CPU performance). ...
Node 2i use with external DAC
Gumby and Yggy would be a nice upgrade with the Node 2i. I used the Yggy for a while with the Node2i. Also consider one of the Denafrips DACs. These are also an excellent value. I'm currently using the Terminator which is a definite step up from t...
Schiit just got real...
Yes, The BDP-2 is Linux based. I didn't think you could output from USB. I use AES3 on my BDP-2.
Roon Upsampling - DSD vs. PCM
@erik_squires - I'm using Roon to do the power of 2 upsampling, and then letting the DAC do whatever oversampling it wants after that.
Roon Upsampling - DSD vs. PCM
My favorite is to use the max power of 2 upsampling with the precise - minimum phase filter. I'm feeding a Denafrips Terminator with oversampling enabled (NOS off). For standard 44.1Khz source material, this upsamples to 176.4Khz.
Diminishing Returns
@bdp24 +1. GR Research has a lot of designs that aren't on their website. Send Danny Ritchie an email or give him a call to discuss what you are looking for. Or spend some time perusing the GR-Research forum on Audio Circle. From a few hundred dol...
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more....
@luisma31 - yes, I agree that having a good DSD section along with the excellent R2R PCM functionality makes the Terminator an excellent "complete" solution no matter your content type. While I have very little DSD content in my own collection so ...

+1 @erik_squires . I was thinking the same thing. But it's his ears and his money. If he likes the sound better that way, that's his choice.

I'm approaching 1000 hours on my Terminator and it's really sounding great. I'm using Roon ROCK on a fanless NUC through an EtherRegen to a Bryston BDP-2 (upgraded audio card) connected to the Terminator through AES3. I've found using Roon sample ...
Next step in improving digital chain?
As is indicated by the Stereophile review, any noise introduced on the USB bus will result in timing errors on the DAC since this DAC is particularly sensitive to jitter. If the OP is happy with the sound from this DAC, then the best strategy woul...
Is it fine to bunch together power wires?
XLR cables have good common mode rejection (assuming the signal is really balanced and the receiving end is using a differential input or transformer to cancel out the common mode signals). This means that any induced signal from neighboring cable...
Is it fine to bunch together power wires?
The biggest issue occurs when cables run parallel to each other. Crossing is not so bad, particularly at right angles. You are better off having a jumbled mess than having all the cables neatly organized running parallel, even if they are spaced a...
Recommendations for PC -- for modest system --
DIY is a great option, particularly if you are on a budget and not looking for anything really esoteric. Wire/cable companies generally don't offer their very best cable for bulk purchases, but there are great options that are equivalent to finish...
Bryston 7Bsst2 vs Parasound JC1
Before you swap out your preamp/amp, you might consider trying a different DAC. I had a W4S DAC2 for a couple years and wasn't really happy with it (I had MG3.6r at the time). I thought my two-decade-old Levinson 39 CD player used as a DAC sounded...
Roon Power Supply
@fundsgon  - to each his/her own, but I have found streaming to be a game changer for me. 15 or so years ago, I had all but lost interest in high-end 2-channel audio, and focused on home theater instead. This was mostly because I was bored with my...
