What is the Best Sounding Stand Mount Speaker in the world?
.. 3rd on the MBL’s, which I’ve heard. Phenomenal imaging, tonal coherance/realism, albeit at a somewhat miniaturized scale. One caveat.. at the show the demonstrators treated the room quite extensively.
Active Speakers Better? No, per Michael Borresen
I went through a few months of soul searching on going active after a midrange driver’s ferrofluid on an old beloved 25yo speaker turned to gooey molasses and started to seize. After running out of driver replacements (had a stock-pile being these...
What is the Best Sounding Stand Mount Speaker in the world?
..really interested to hear the new Audio Physic speakers with their latest spider-less transducer technology. NEAR won me over long ago just because of this. Glad to see it coming back. Point source with the transparency of panels (without the ba...
What is the Best Sounding Stand Mount Speaker in the world?
I’m not going out on limb by nominating the The Borresen M1. However disclaimer.. have not actually heard them yet.. so skip to the last paragraph, but on the M1’s, I have read about the engineering and have heard other Borrensen and Raidho stand ...
What speakers have you mistakenly let go and then later repurchased?
NEAR 50me. Tall slender budget (yet exotic) time aligned speaker with bespoke esoteric spiderless drivers from the mid to late 90’s. It took until 2021 for another manufacturer to succeed at this (Audio Physic). NEAR technically never quite succee...
WILL IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
...one more thing.. about going all tube. I used to use single-ended zero-feedback Class-A tube mono-blocks in my system.. 80wpc. The top-end finesse was refined.. silky, they imaged great, but they never had enough drive for me to believe the sou...
WILL IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
I believe it's mainly the room.. and also possibly speaker placement. You can try toeing your speakers out slightly. Imaging may lose some focus but it should balance the HF response. You won't be able to effectively 'roll' equipment until you hav...
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
Younger people may have paid 10-20x more for their homes than you did (if they even could buy a home, actually) and their educations.. likewise. They can't afford to cash out on extravagances.. but the most likely explanation is their apartment ne...
Used vs New vs Vintage vs Floorstanding vs Bookshelf vs ..... OMG!
Also, if you live in a humid climate (40-50%+), I would avoid old paper coned speakers, unfortunately. They’re great when new, but awful when the coating disintegrates and local humidity has ravaged them.. adding mass to their membranes.Carbon, Po...
Used vs New vs Vintage vs Floorstanding vs Bookshelf vs ..... OMG!
I do get vtv..’s concern. If you have (and are willing to part with) the money, buying new is preferrable. However, given the 5 and 6 digit prices good (new) full-range speakers command these days.. buying used can save you several of those digits...
Used vs New vs Vintage vs Floorstanding vs Bookshelf vs ..... OMG!
I'll keep this in terms of less expensive or used/vintage gear.First, decide whether you like your music rendered in terms of tonality/big sound.. or, being rendered with pin-point imaging, depth, resolution, and accuracy.. aural-spatial effects, ...
Highest BUILD quality tube amps?
+1 for Rogue.I mentioned Kondo/Audio Note earlier but I also use a Rogue preamp (modified by the factory), and they're great. Great service.. they care about their work and customers.
Highest BUILD quality tube amps?
....or Audio Note may be the more familiar name.
Highest BUILD quality tube amps?
Kondo (Japan)
Speakers with the most detailed midrange? (non-ESL/planar)
I mentioned the NEAR 10m’s. To clarify, if hunting down a pair, the later versions (all black woofers and 1.1in inverted dome Ti tweeter) were ok, but to my ears, the earlier models with raw alu woofer dustcaps and smaller Ti tweeters sound more r...
