Evaluating Equipment-induced EMI noise in one’s audio system For me, a good cask strength bourbon helps. Makes the voices quieter also.
Do you adjust your subwoofer I use 3 SVS subs and actually control them by a second preamp. My musical tastes run the entire spectrum and recordings vary greatly. Seems that the newer music is recorded with much more emphasis on low frequencies. This has worked for me going o...
Is my amp good enough? Do not forget the importance of speaker placement and room treatment. All the money and components in the world cannot overcome a horrible set up.
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system Colorful language aside, I agree with deep_333. Anyone who has participated in the recording process can attest to the fact that not all masters are reflective as to what the artist intended. The goal of hearing exactly what is recorded is a fool'...
Warm Up Time/Cost of Operation My time is pretty structured, so I act accordingly. Warm the big Macs up when needed and leave them off when not. I get caught with my pants down once in a while but not often. If you listen a lot, you should leave the amps on all the time.
Are cable “upgrades” just as likely to make your system sound worse? The break in time for speaker cables can be quite long. When I made my own cables using Canare 4s11, I waited 100 hrs, before making any determination about their sound. They have certainly gotten better with time.
Getting 2 subs In my experience, the 4000 and the 3000 seem to pair better. That may be because my PC2000 is a bottom firing sub. I have often wondered how the SB2000 and 4000 would pair up. The quickness of the 2000 and the crazy extension of the 4000 would see...
Getting 2 subs I use to great satisfaction 3 different SVS subs in my main room. A SB4000, a SB3000 and a PC2000 Ultra. The 4000 crosses at 60hz, the 3000 at 80hz and the 2000 at 100hz. After playing with the gain for some time it is now dialed in seamlessly. Yo...
Why would someone feel the need to comment unpleasant things on sale posts Good luck with selling your father's gear. And please accept my condolences on the loss of your dad. Going through my pop's stuff was one of the hardest things I ever did, so I truly feel your pain. Soldier on and keep the memories.
Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby? Remember, everything matters but nothing is required. Play it loud.
All Pre 1970 Vintage speakers suck! Prove me wrong As I believe this post was started tongue in cheek, the only thing I will add is that equipment cannot be compared in the parameters of generation. My Pioneer HPM speakers in 1978 brought me more musical joy then than I can even hope for out of my...
Antique Sound Labs Nothing to add of assistance but felt like noting that this thread is why I first starting using this site. Good questions with smart useful answers. Information is really important in finding the gear and room that lets the music touch your soul.
The greatest Pop song yet written and recorded. Maybe it is Chris Isaak / Wicked Game. Now I am not sure anymore. Oh well... back to my Old Forester bourbon and a little more contemplation.
The greatest Pop song yet written and recorded. I forgot to add my pick. The Avette Brothers / No Hard Feelings is obviously the winner.
The greatest Pop song yet written and recorded. Once again, a music list without one song from this century. Sad. |
