Sony SCD-1 or BAT VK-D5 / D5SE Might as well stay in the BAT family, if you're happy with the sound of your preamp and amp. I have the VK-D5se and it sounds great on cd's. I also have a Sony DVP-S9000Es which fills my occasional HT/SACD need. IMHO, there still isn't enough SACD...
WAF, Help, Need Strategy Slappy, you did say fiance, right? That means you're not trapped yet. Run like the wind, save yourself. Go listen to Elton John's 'Someone Saved My Life Tonight', and smile.'You almost had your hooks in me, didn't ya dear?'It's too late for me, I'...
I have a confession to make Scottht, it sounds like Dr. Draz from the asylum is your only hope now. His dramatic TRT is the answer.http://java.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.pl?forum=general&n=300375&highlight=trt&r=&session=In all seriousness, the only answer is a bi...
Audioquest PT arm v. VPI JMW series I'll second Slowhand's comments. I bought my VPI w/ the AQ PT-6 arm and changed to the JMW 10.5. No Contest. The JMW is much fuller, richer, and robust. The bass is also deeper and tighter. The AQ comments must just be sales hype.
If Money Were No Object... A Fantasy Question I'd definitiely go with at least two rooms/systems. I think one of the reasons I buy and sell a lot of equipment is because of my varied musical tastes. I've found that there is no one single component that plays ALL music the best. They all seem ...
Is it best to stay in the same family???? The Rhea is an awesome phono preamp, it is worth an audition. Sometimes there is some family synergy, but sometimes the upgrade outways the family synergy. Is there a way you can try the Rhea in your system? If it sounds better, to you, than the P...
Amp for Vienna Acoustic Beethoven speakers The Concentra II is a fine integrated amp, as are the BAT VK-300SE and the VAC Avatar Super. These are the best integrateds I've heard. Once you get into seperates the combinations get more mind-boggling. A lot of good sound is synergy, which can ...
Not a ground loop hum??? If you have a video cable line or satelite cable, disconnect it, see if the hum goes away. I went through a similar situation a year or so ago. I tried cheater plugs, floating grounds, etc, etc. It wound up the ground loop hum was coming from my c...
Source or Amp in audio link? Which came first? The chicken or the egg? I would choose the amp, but then I prefer LP's.
Do most manu. buy or build their x-overs? As far as I know, most high end crossovers are designed and tweaked by the speaker designer. That's the secret. There wouldn't be an art to it if it was just making boxes and plugging in drivers. I've heard that many speaker designers spend many h...
Want to buy for a power conditioner? I'm surprised there has been no reco for the Shunyata Hydra 8 yet. That 's the one I would recommend, of the ones on your list. I currently am using the original Hydra with an Anaconda vX cord. It was a huge upgrade over my previous conditioner (A...
Expert advice needed for cable upgrade............ Try Discovery Essence cables. VPI tonearms are internally wired with Discovery cable. Talk to Joe DePhillips, he's a member here at AgoN. His moniker is 'Wires'.Regards,John
NOW I know why I bought an SACD player Tim, right on. Modern Cool on vinyl gives me chills. I don't think I've ever heard horns or bass sound so REAL!
Amp "pop" - need help Leave amp on at all times and this won't be a problem. I leave my Threshold on 24/7 (150 wpc of pure Class A). It sounds better and is easier on the internal components, no power rushes. I leave all SS equipment on at all times. YMMV.Regards,John
Koetsu Cartridge Question Quincy, FWIW, I bought my Koetsu off Ebay from 2juki, and couldn't be happier. I've seen used ones selling for more. I also do not have a lot of faith in buying a used cartridge. Many folks are honest, however, there are also many that vastly unde... |
