Change my AA front-end MikE, how much money are we talking? You claim you'd like to buy a cd player for what you could sell your seperates for, what do you believe you could sell your seperates for? I also agree that an active preamp will give you more bass slam.John
Best 5 channel amp under 4k Robk, what have you heard about the CAV180? I've owned Classe amps before and never had a problem (CA-200 and CAV-75). In that price range, I'd be interested in the aforementioned Bryston 9B-ST, an Aragon 8008X5, or the Classe CAV-180.
What's the best Preamp?? Of the ones you've listed, I take the Anthem AVM-20. However, If you can find an Aragon Soundstage on closeout, it'll be better and less expensive. It list for $4K, I've seen them closing out as low as $1500. If you need 7.1, the Aragon is not for...

Opinions on Classe Amps? Classe makes great stuff. I had a CA-200 driving a pair of Legacy Classics, was very happy with the combo. Warm and musical, especially for solid state. Since the upgrade bug hit, I have neither anymore. Currently I have a Threshold T400 driving a...
The Infinity IL60s or Vienna Acoustics Beethoven I agree with Flemke and Lonch. I own the Beethovens, and though I haven't heard the IL60s, I've never heard any of the Infinity speakers sound anywhere near as good musically as the VA's.
Recommendation for HT w/Vandersteen 2Ce I'm from the seperate 2 ch + 3 ch amp school. I'd recommend spending more on the 2 channel than the 3, if you listen to mostly music. If you're mostly movies, a 5 channel amp would probably do. I was running a Threshold T400 stereo amp for my main...
Best amp/pre-amp for Vienna Acoustics Haydn ? McCormack makes great SS equipment. I'd second that amp reco. I can't second the Adcom. I don't care for Adcom sonics, and if they have reliability issues, why would you even consider it. How 'bout the matching McCormack preamp? What features do y...
Experiences with your "Better Halves" Rphare, I'll trade, even up, sight unseen.
Receiver +2ch pre on same speakers? Which one? I'm currently going through the same process. Downgrading HT to go back to stereo. I bought a stereo preamp with surround inputs (which you say you already have, right?). Then I just bought an inexpensive Denon receiver ($375). It has preamp outs,...
Experiences with your "Better Halves" My wife has never cared for my hobby. She did before we got married, but then, alas, I found out it was all an act. We've been married for 18 years. She floored me the other day though, when she finally broke down and admitted that my $25,000 syst...
What do you do when the kids come along? I have 3 boys, ages 11, 14 and 17. I find the best audio 'tweak' is duct tape. Inexpensive, and worth every penny.Seriously, you will need your wife to understand how important this hobby is to you. If she stays home with the children, like mine d...
Which direction would you go? Mike, if the VA's sounded that good hooked up to a A/V receiver, imagine what they could do with quality amplification. It's the silk, soft dome tweeter man. I have my Beethovens hooked up to a Threshold T400, whew, awesome. If your B&W's have...
Which direction would you go? If you're looking to match up with Cary equipment, check out Soliloquy Speakers. They are tuned for Cary gear.John
Can you help or do I have to get divorced? In that case, try a nice pair of Proac Response 2S. Make sure they're on stands, and out a couple feet from room boundaries. |
