Loudspeaker 'Back EMF'
Amfibius - It does interfere with an output to some degree. Most of amps contain negative feedback, forcing desire voltage on the output in spite of the current fluctuations. In one way it is beneficial helping with things like back EMF or intermo...
Balanced vs. unbalanced
One more thing - Input does not have to be directly an OP-Amp. It could be, and often is, coupling transformer. Transformer is a very effective method of removing common mode, breaking ground loops, blocking DC and limting rf (filter).Transformers...
Balanced vs. unbalanced
Bob - you asked "For example, if an op amp has a bandwidth of 10 MHz, what happens when its fed a 100 MHz signal?"Most likely RF rectification - conversion to DC or low frequency noise if 100MHz (or higher frequency) is modulated. It is caused by ...
Loudspeaker 'Back EMF'
Chris - portion of Back EMF generated by the speaker can get to the other speaker (tweeter to midrange). Amplifier would "short it" but there is about 5uH inductance of the speaker cable in between (and amp's output impedance is higher at higher f...
Benchmark DAC 1 - first thoughts
Variable doesn't work if you use volume control (one or another - identical signal path). -10dB is the worst (1600 Ohm output impedance), -20dB is 500 Ohm and 0dB is 60 Ohm. DAC1-USB has it lower. If you don't use volume control (have preamp) try ...
Benchmark DAC 1 - first thoughts
Signal path inside of DAC1 is, according to Benchmark's technical director John Siau, identical with or without volume control. Running Benchmark directly to power amp allows to get rid of one set of interconnects (and preamp's circuits - less is ...
Benchmark DAC 1 - first thoughts
DAC1's output impedance is dependant on this divider. 0dB provides lowest output impedance and best sound according to one review I read. I second buying USB version since it also has newest National Semiconductors LM4562 OP-Amps and scaled down m...
OK, I'm dumb. Does it ever end?
Rob - I have Rowland 102 and use it with Benchmark DAC1 as a preamp (it has a volume control). That way I can use cheap DVD player as a transport (Benchmark rejects jitter) getting benefit of good sound from TV, DVD, and MP3. I could also play DVD...
Damping factor or watts?
AudikinesisDF=1 is a little extreme. On the other hand Atma-Spere design does not have transformers and capacitors in the signal path !!!. I would stay away from amps with DF>500. Icepower, I use, is a different beast and has inherently high DF...
Damping factor or watts?
AudiokinesisThanks for the info on Atma-Sphere S-30 - I checked and it looks very very interesting.
Damping factor or watts?
Icepower is class D - has high power, high DF and is not astronomically expensive (to answer your question). I stated previously what ideal DF should be and I feel I should explain it more. In ideal world high DF would be great - but in real life ...
Damping factor or watts?
DF is limited by the inductor in series with the woofer to about 100. DF of an amp should be few times higher. Very high DF=4000 (Icepower) doesn't make much difference - at least at low frequencies. Low output impedance at higher frequencies help...
Sending audio cables to Europe
Once I had to send package to Chile. I checked cheapest UPS and FEDEX - very expensive. USPS tends to get stolen (same with some European countries) unless it is "USPS Express Mail" - handled much better and not very expensive.
Different lengths of interconnects ??????
Something does not make sense. If extra length of cable does not make a difference then why Valhalla - very expensive IC.You probably believe that cable makes difference and it is proportional to distance and your question is "how much of a differ...
ICE amps need cooling?
It is not standby power. Smaller module 200ASC has FTC power listed as 55W (standby is about 10W). Icepower cannot run with maximum power for a long time but you don't need it because "average music power" is in single percents of peak power. Also...
