Why whole house surge protectors are not enough @erik_squires +1 Clamping voltage increases with clamping current. It can be 250Vpeak (line to neutral) at 1mA, but it will more than double at few thousand of amperes. Surge current will be reduced by inductance of long power line, but not w...
Help me select few vinyl LPs Thank you everybody for help. So far I got 1. Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (180g) 2. Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out / Time Further Out (180g) 3. Gil Evans - Out of Cool (180g) 4. Ike Quebec - Heavy Soul (180g) 5. Here It Is - Tribute to Leonard C...
Help me select few vinyl LPs @drrsutliff I found so far in Tone Poet series "Here it is: A Tribute to Leonard Cohen" - seems like safe choice. @ghdprentice Amazon (quick delivery) sells also 180g Kind of Blue but not a Mono recording. Perhaps not the same sound quality, bu...
Help me select few vinyl LPs @dogberry I cannot ask him (it's surprise) and we see each other maybe once a year (he is in Europe), but as far as I remember he is not into progressive Jazz or Heavy Metal Rock. Kind of Blue would be safe choice, but he likely has it. @danma...
Toslink Slow Toslink transitions convert system electrical noise (on both ends) to jitter (but Toslink is immune to ambient electrical noise and doesn’t create ground loops). Fast coax transition produce reflections on characteristic impedance boundaries...
has anyone tried playing an itunes library (on an ext. HD) on a newer mac with imusic? Application on newer OS is "Music" and it plays library created with old Itunes. I made large library with Itunes on older Mac Mini (2014) on external SSD, using ALAC format and it played fine when newer OS introduced "Music" (renamed Itunes). I d...
Opening Acts For the Rolling Stones One night in the 80's I went to Biddy Mulligan's bar/club in Chicago. For $5 cover charge I was in front of John Lee Hooker and his Coast to Coast Blues Band with invited guests: Willie Dixon and Chuck Berry. Today, all of them are gone and Bidd...
Length of SPDIF cable Beginning of transition of digital signal creates reflection from the mismatched characteristic impedance at the end of the cable. This reflection comes back and adds to original transition distorting its shape and causing possible time shift of t...
Determining exact power being sent to your speaker Vrms x Irms = Pavg. This average power is equal 0.5 of peak power for sinewave.. Pavg represents dissipated heat while rms value of power curve would be 0.62 of peak power for sinewave and it does not represent anything.
2.4GHz Wifi My wireless fiber optics modem doesn't allow to split bands either, but in advanced settings I found an option to split and name them differently. System advised against it claiming that automatic choice is better, but it always picked 2.4GHz sin...
Sensitivity question 8 ohm speaker rated at 88dB will produce 88dB/W at 1m distance. At 2m it will drop to 82dB/W, but room reflections add 3dB and second speaker adds another 3dB, resulting in 88dB at 1W. At 23W they will produce 102dB - should be loud enough. Sen...
Any Thoughts? I don't think so
Should headphones be plugged in when tube headphone amp is on? i would assume that it is the same as with tube speaker's amps - it has to be connected to load. Open output in tube amps can result in damage to output transformer (overvoltage).
Ripping CD's I believe that any program will do for writing. CDP adjusts laser power on special training track. Reading is more difficult. Advantage of ripping program over CDP playback is, that it can go over each sector multiple times (CDP reading in real ti...
