Which sounds better 2 way or 3 way speaker design
@rauliruegas Dear @kjl1065 : Everything the same 3-way is a superior MUSIC reproduction where a 2-way ( almost any. ) has a way higher Intermodulation Distortions that per sé goes against MUSIC in front of the 3-way design. There’s never a fr...
Mystery with woofers. Help!
If the info I ran across is correct, that midbass crosses over to the woofer at 65 hz,so it’s actually producing all but the lowest frequencies of bass, which your sub is covering. If you ended up plugging the woofers back in, you may want to adju...
Which sounds better 2 way or 3 way speaker design
It depends on the design. There are pros and cons with each, but there are a lot of outstanding 2-way speakers.  They're simpler and can typically offer higher quality parts because there’s simply fewer of them to buy. Because of they can be built...
What is the most important component in your audio chain?
The most important component is the weakest link.
The # 1 Christmas Album
The Carpenters, Judd’s, Creole Christmas, James Taylor, Larry Carlton, A Very Cherry Christmas, Vince Gill, Pentatonix, Randy Travis, Chet Atkins East Tennessee Christmas, The Statler Bros, Alabama, Michael Bubbly, John Denver...all good. I could ...
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to my fellow audiophiles.
Merry Christmas!
What contributes most to a change in how an amplifier sounds?
Just like an entire audio system, an amplifier is a chain of circuits and parts that’s only as good as it’s weakest link. At some level, everything matters, but many folks feel that it all starts with the power supply.  In the case of tube amps, I...
??? What Is The MOST Expensive System You Ever Heard ??? What Was Your Opinion ???
Convergent Audio Technology is about 15 miles from me, and I get to hear the latest and greatest of the CAT amps and SL-1 occasionally... always very impressive. Usually in the $100K to $200K range, depending on the gear. I’ve heard the Magico S5 ...
Tung-Sol 7581A......Wow!!
I like the VTA mods a lot.  They do have the Mk 3 and M125s in kit.  Not sure how different the Mk IV is.
Tung-Sol 7581A......Wow!!
@artemus_5  Yeah, the blue is really nice...very photogenic! What I call "monoblocks" is essentially one channel of two separate Dyna/VTA 70s with SS rectifiers.  I think they'd be most similar to the Mk IV.
Doozy of an amp question
I'd guess the Mac would be easier to resell if you ever wanted to swap it.
HOW DID YOU END UP WITH YOUR DREAM SYSTEM?
Getting involved with the audio business got me off the typical merry-go-round of buying and swapping well reviewed mid-fi stuff that I was never particularly happy with. Working for Merlin and Paul Heath Audio gave me exposure to a much higher le...
Tung-Sol 7581A......Wow!!
My technical tube knowledge is limited as well, but it looks like both have plate current of 54 amps with plate voltages of 350v. I’d guess the extra 5 watts is a fairly minor impact.   When I switched from KT66 to the 7581A, I didn't notice any ...
Tung-Sol 7581A......Wow!!
AFAIK, the 7581A is an upgraded version of the 6L6 so should be a direct drop in.
Tung-Sol 7581A......Wow!!
My Tung Sol 7581As have been in my Dyna/VTA monoblocks for going on 15 months now, with probably somewhere in the rough range of 500-700 hours on them.  Just wanted to reiterate how much I like these tubes in my system....there's been a little aud...
