VPI table owners, help please.
I have the Scout using a Fidelity ResearchFR1mk3f into a Sutherland PHD,and I presently use Shunyata Aries.I tried a half metre length of Kimber PBJ because it has thin wires similar to the arm wire. Not a very good sound. The Shunyata went back in....
Art Audio Vinyl one vs Sutherland PhD
I have the PHD and can only say that it beat the pants off of a Sonic Frontiers that I once owned and as far as pre-amps with built in phono stages it also beats the Audible Illusions and Atmasphere pre amps that I have owned. How it compares to th...
Internal Speaker Cabling
Something else to ponder are the quality of the binding posts at the speaker and at the amp, they can also alter the sound of those expensive cables.I like to simply bypass the binding posts whenever I can.If the speaker cable and the internal spea...
Has anyone tried double CLS
To quote from issue 67 of TAS"a pair of(Classe) DR 8's sends 350 watts into 8 ohms, and 525 into 4 ohms"So I think my Classe DR 8's run in balanced mono are quite up to the task of driving my CLS even as a single run. Now when the amp sees the seri...
Has anyone tried double CLS
I think you don't know much about the Quad ESL.There is one treble panel in the centre of each ESL 57,flanked by a bass panel to either side. Three panels per speaker only.So when you stack you get 2 treble panels and four bass panels per stack.Yo...
Has anyone tried double CLS
The more panels, the more radiating area the more sound. Is this too hard to comprehend? The stacked Quads didn't magically have any different bass than they had before. They did not go lower. The bass just radiated into the room more so that you did ...
Has anyone tried double CLS
I must repeat, the double CLS are not stacked so you do not need ceilings any higher than you need for a single pair. The speakers are wired in series exactly as the gentleman has described and the load to your amp is not as severe as with one pai...
Has anyone tried double CLS
You guys are all talking unproven nonsense. I am reporting the facts as I actually am living with doubled CLS11Z at the moment. Not a flight of fancy.Until you hear or try this you are just speculators. Now to get back to the real facts and truthful...
Experience with Meadowlark Heron i speakers?
I have a pair in Makore finish and drive them with Classe DR8 amps run in mono.I have used a tube 20 watt Bell integrated and found that in a small room,it will work, but these speakers like more power in my view to really come alive, especially in ...

What's the oldest piece of gear in your system?
A 1961 Bell tube integrated amp.It has the original 4 RCA 6V6 power tubes and 4 Telefunken 12AX7.It has those terrible 8 and 16 0hm small screw speaker connectors. It has a mm phono stage, never been modded and works flawlessy. It spends it's time p...
Should we upgrade high end fuses?
The Iso Cleans worked for me.Used them on my mono blocks, pre-amp power stage, and line conditioner. If you can't hear the differences in cables and power cords then don't bother with fuses.
Very short speaker cable length recommended?
I used to feel the same way and had been using a one metre length of upscale name brand cable. Then I experimented with the room/speaker set-up and moved the speakers away from the power amps and used long runs of another brand name cable but but m...
2-channel listening with a sub-woofer
I use Martin Logan CLS 11Z and a depth sub. Three 8 inch drivers made by the same company that made the main speakers in a non HT set up in a very large room.Try to stick to the same company for your mains and sub.Saves a lot of trial and error an...
Amp for Martin Logan
I drive a pair of CLS11z with 2 Classe DR 8 amps run in mono.Stable and smooth. You could try the same but in stereo ,one amp to the panels, one amp to the woofers to keep the voice of the amp and speakers the same.Or one amp in stereo for the left...
