Newbie Looking for Advice on Streaming Music
music direct has the bluesound node for less than $300 and would be my recommendation
Speaker Sensitivity AND Power Requirements
i agree with timlub--i'd look for more power--
What music or equipment gifts did you get for Christmas this year?
amazon echo dot--thought it was stupid at first, now i'm hooked.
Yamaha A 500 Integrated Amp Modifications
the speaker connectors in back are just spring clips--pins should work fine, tho i'd personally use bare fire for 'em
Whats on your turntable tonight?
richard manuel's a real good analogy--i hear him as somewhat sweeter-sounding than ray charles, but he had in any event a great, soulful voice. i like all your other picks, too, but steve marriott was my main man--he's the great white soul shouter.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
bdp, also check out exotic birds and fruit, which despite being post-matthew fisher and robin trower, is surprisingly great, with at least 3-4 classic tunes. keith reid's lyrics are more straightforward and less surreal than usual and gary brooke...

Store auditioning and then buying on-line from others. How do you feel about it ?
some 30 years ago, when i lived in northern california there was a guitar store where every freakin kid in town would hang out all day and play gear which few of them could afford. i once asked the owner why he didn't kick out the obvious gawkers,...
Slappy here. Been a long time, have some audio source questions.
if i had to do it all over again i'd forgo the transport/physical media and stream exclusively--i use spotify, but as per erik tidal sounds even better. pandora sounds awful in comparison to either.

as inna said, we're all nice and ethical on paper; when actual significant dollars are involved i'd suspect our standards become more flexible. for myself, as someone who provides service for a living i'm empathetic to the b&m retailers and, a...
Is Tidal in trouble?
i agree with grannyring--they will almost certainly be acquired. their business model as a standalone company never made sense except to entice a larger purchaser who wants to synergize with their technology and customer base.
Vintage Onkyo gear vs Adcom
84, my recollection is that the original 545 was a bit bright and build quality was uncharacteristically unimpressive (the 555ii, otoh, was built like a tank). i do understand that the 545 mkii was an upgrade, though i haven't heard it, so by all ...
Vintage Onkyo gear vs Adcom
the b&w 684 are rated at 87db, which makes them relatively hard to drive--the 60w 535 might (or might not) be enough amp (b&w recommends 25-150w, which isn't terribly helpful). i've found adcom to be conservative in its power ratings, but ...
Vintage Onkyo gear vs Adcom
i had the (first generation) 545, which i didn't like as much as the 535 or 555, for whatever reason--if your speakers aren't too demanding you can get a 535 for $125 or so. i've also owned various rotel (and currently using an rb-971 in my office...
Vintage Onkyo gear vs Adcom
i still have an integra a-890 (having cycled thru other integra integrateds)--they're good value but don't sound as good as the pass design adcom separates--i'd look for an adcom gfa-500 series amp like the 555 (or cheaper 535)
