How Big of a Difference?
@jji666 I don't know anything about your system or you overall experience all things audiophile, so I'll just reply by referencing my own experience.  I too have considered the "your system is not resolving enough" comments to be a potential ratio...
How is Mid Fi defined?
@mahler123 I wish you would have confirmed the status of my system as hifi 11 years ago as I could have been happy and not upgraded :-) I know have a Pathos Classic One amplifier, a modified (though budget) DAC, and even some audiophile approved ...
Musings of a Budget Audiophile
I have not done any A/B comparisons between the BJC LC-1 and Audioquest Chicago interconnects beyond the initial switch, but I can say that my system sounds amazing and I do consider that the Audioquest cables are an improvement.  I'd describe it ...
Musings of a Budget Audiophile
@tomic601 The Audioquest Chicago interconnects showed up today.  I put them in and am so far enjoying them.  It'll take a bit of listening to really evaluate them, but I'd say that they are smoother and have a more visceral presentation compared t...
Two Sources, One DAC
The Bluesound Node 2i has optical and digital coax output options.  I don't think it outputs USB. I think the digital coax (SPDIF) is considered to be superior so use that for your primary or superior source.  If you have any high resolution file...
How Big of a Difference?
My experience is limited with cables, but the only cable that I've heard a significant difference with was a W Audio power cord that I picked up for about $40 on Amazon.  The W Audio power cord made a significant difference for my Pathos amplifier...
Recommendation for Digital Coax
Optical cannot handle higher resolution audio files.  SPDIF can.  I switched from optical to SPDIF when I was playing around with a Schiit DAC that would handle high resolution files because optical resulted in no sound.
Thoughts On Pathos Classic Remix?
I own a Classic One MkIII, but am not familiar with the Classic Remix.  However, looking at the Upscale Audio website it appears that the Classic Remix adds a headphone output and also the option of a DAC.  The amplifier specs look to be similar t...
Recommendation for Digital Coax
Blue Jeans Cable is a great place to start.   https://smile.amazon.com/Coaxial-Digital-Audio-Cable-Black/dp/B002872F0Q/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2ECJ0DULNC6RV&keywords=bjc+digital+coaxial+6+feet&qid=1641188489&sprefix=bjc+digital+c...
Musings of a Budget Audiophile
@tomic601 Interesting idea for the power setup. The other available outlet supports my home theater gear, so I’m not sure how well that would work out. I purchased the Maverick Audio TubeMagic D2 DAC with the Burr Brown OPA627 op amp upgrade. The...
Musings of a Budget Audiophile
@danager I did consider trying an adapter with a Mullard tube, but Tube Depot only has a 5670 to 6922 adapter and not the other way around.  Based on the lack change from the stock GE to the WE 396A I wouldn't expect a significant change from a sw...
Musings of a Budget Audiophile
@slaw It appears that "not a lot of money" to you means spending as much on interconnects as I did my DAC.  I'm certainly open to exploring interconnects and appreciate the benefit of your experience, but it'll take a much more budget cable to con...
Musings of a Budget Audiophile
@slaw That sounds like the type of experience that's worth consideration.  Too often on this forum I see blind suggestions being given. Questions: (1) What components were in your system when you did this?  I interested in the specific equipment...

@slaw How familiar are you with Blue Jeans Cables?  What design characteristics would you expect to result in an improvement in my system?
Musings of a Budget Audiophile
@mapman The Maverick Audio DAC has a solid state output that runs in parallel with the tube buffer.  I often have them hooked up in parallel so that I can switch between them.  I preferred the solid state output prior to the op amp upgrade and the...
