aluminum platter vs Acrylic not what I thought
"The best platters that VPI made were the lead ones. They had to stop making them due to the new environmental laws ( no lead) 20 years ago. VPI claims that these were better than all the others!"I don't think the disappearance of lead from VPI pr...
aluminum platter vs Acrylic not what I thought
FWIW the original VPI platter was aluminum with a lead insert. When that was replaced on the same turntable with acrylic, also with a lead insert, the review in the (then honest) Absolute Sound said that the original aluminum was clearly awful and...
9", 10" or 12" tonearm?
Another advantage of a 12" arm is that once you set the correct VTA/SRA, it changes less with different weight records than does a shorter arm.
Please Recommend Transport + DAC for $5K total
@auxinputInteresting.  I had a look at the Pink Faun and at the TNT review.  You have to wonder why, though, it hasn't found much favor though it's been around for several years.  I think that perhaps it may have been the recent and rapid improvem...
Please Recommend Transport + DAC for $5K total
@auxinput I'm experimenting ripping some CDs and sending them through the Amanero USB to I2S board to the LKS.  The results are very promising.  But I want to do more before I conclude it's not wishful thinking.  But after all, the board is the...
Please Recommend Transport + DAC for $5K total
@auxinputThe LKS 004 uses a Crystek CCHD-575 femtoclock on its main board and two Crystek CCHD-957 femtoclocks on the upgraded Amanero USB to I2S board. The results using ripped SACDs sent to the USB from a hard drive through a lap-top are superb,...
Has Anyone Auditioned an LKS MH-DA004 DAC?
I would sell the Onkyo and buy a used Oppo 103. They're selling cheap ($2-300) on eBay.  Then you can do everything you want (and much more) for a very reasonable price. And you can operate it all from your phone too.
USB Cable: Oyaide, Cardas, Shunyata....
Does the Cary DAC require power through the cable or data only?  That could make a difference in your selection of a cable.
Has Anyone Auditioned an LKS MH-DA004 DAC?
The manufacturer’s support page is at: http://www.mu-sound.com/about.asp?id=3The manual, such as it is, is at: http://www.mu-sound.com/files/MH-DA004.pdfTo use the Coax, Optical, AES/EBU or the BNC, there is no set-up, just plug it in. If that’s a...

@jib222 It's been a while.  Any word?
Has Anyone Auditioned an LKS MH-DA004 DAC?
@chayro - IMO properly designed it doesn’t have to be outboard. Whoever has written about the LKS finds it absolutely silent. That’s true of a number of others with large inboard PS, as well as preamps with large inboard PS, etc. I'm with you that...
Has Anyone Auditioned an LKS MH-DA004 DAC?
I have never maintained that this unit blows away anything. Frankly, I have no idea. What I do know is that this Chinese maker has just piled in a lot of quality parts and technology in a $1500 package, beyond anything, I think, that a known Ameri...

In the gareneau post, someone was asking a question. You, however, were offing a sincere opinion. So I would respectfully stand by my questions.Anyway, I find it interesting that you think the LKS may achieve the sound of up to a $4000 DAC, but no...
Has Anyone Auditioned an LKS MH-DA004 DAC?
"My opinion, I sincerely doubt this [$1600 and then fully modded DAC] would be better than a Berkeley or DCS DAC. Not in the same league at all.Do you mean the $5000 or the 16,000 Berkely DAC; or do you mean the $11,000 or the $35,000 dCS DAC? A "...
Has Anyone Auditioned an LKS MH-DA004 DAC?
"One thing here no matter how much anyone mods the unit and all the Hype" First of all there is no "Hype." The LKS unit is virtually not marketed at all. If you want to talk about "Hype" continue to write about PS Audio. Fact is you’re comparing $...
