Lyra Cartridges
It took about 6 months to get my Lyra Atlas SL from Japan after I ordered it from Audioquest. They are all back ordered. I know that if you have a non Lamda cartridge, Lyra will upgrade it to a Lamda for no charge.
For those of you who had spent over hundred thousand dollars for your sound system.
Retail, my system is about $130K. However, I was able to buy several key components for a fraction-used or otherwise. Cash spent is about $45K. After 51 years of systems-starting with a Pacific Stereo $199 package including a Lenco TT, Niko recei...
Are Expensive Balanced Interconnects Necessary?
This is an issue questioned forever. I believe the answer is no if your two components are truly balanced. Single ended cables is a different story.
What Is Most Important?
If what technically contributes most to enjoyment, without question the two transducers. The cartridge and the speakers. If what element of of the experience, without question the moments when one tears up with emotion. And being emotionally inv...
Best speakers for Opera.
Legendary-Quad ESL 57s. With the right amp, some voices can bring you to tears.
My experience with the First Watt F7
IME with a First Watt M2, good but not very moving. SS sound for sure. I was a die hard tube fan but now live with my destination AGD Audions. First amp to continually bring deep emotion with no objectionable SS sound or tubey sound. But the bes...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
If the Decca Londons were available, that is what I would have bought. But IME with the $13K Lyra Atlas SL, the top line, very pricey cartridge clearly justified its high price and lofty position. I moved up from a very nice Myajima Shalabi. The ...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
Very curious about MI. Next week will install my new Grado Epoch3. And uninstall my Lyra Atlas SL. Will report my findings on my Triplanar SE arm and Woodsong Garrard 301.
Garrard 301 restore
I looked for a great rebuild of a 301 for many years. When I finally found a Woodsong 301 in their highest level plinth and $3500 Jelco arm I was v happy to buy it for $5300. You might ask for advise from Woodsong, but Chris Harban is great at wh...
Which pair of speakers changed your Hifi life?
So many records that were just OK on the big boxes are lovely on the Quad 57s!
Speaker polyamory -- or, stories about getting a second set to alternate with your primary
Only at night watching TV through the system could better hear the big bass and explosions with the big boxes. Although not really into changing the speaker cables.
Speaker polyamory -- or, stories about getting a second set to alternate with your primary
Recently switched from $30K floorstanders to Quad 57s.  95% sure I will sell the big speakers. Most of what I listen to is small scale that sounds magical with the Quads. And how they pull you in compared to big boxes that throw the music at you. ...
Seeking suggestions for 6922 tubes
Mullard Mil Spec Very hard to find but best by far. Wrapped in paper inside the box. Checked at the factory. Will be hoarded by some. Brent will not have them.
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
The Grados seem super interesting. More than one reviewer called the Epoch3 “the world’s best cartridge”. Did hear a $25K cartridge in a demo. The Epoch is $12K. MI could/should be a very different story… maybe preferable?!
Are You Happy With Your Phono Preamp?
Zesto Andros Deluxe Nicely priced about $8500. Have almost all the features of their $15K model but in one box and can only take two instead of 4 inputs. Gorgeous tube sound without tube downsides. Also beautiful to look at.
