The eternal quandary This is a wonderful thread. Its a state of mind for me: State 1 - If I focus on the quality of the sound, then I only select the best recorded material to play and search for weakness and strength in the system. This is a good place to be if you a...
Dali Helicon 800. What components match with it? Zear, its a different company to Chord electronics, as far as I know. I have tried a few of their products with quite some success. They are a little more understated than the other brands.I have a friend who works as an audio engineer with some E...
Cables for GamuT L-5 speakers? Sounds like a good choice, and it has great reviews. As long as you think it sounds good, it is good. The more you mess around with cable, the more confused you become. Thats in my case, anyway. Maybe my ears arent good enough, or the system affec...
Dali Helicon 800. What components match with it? Zear, I couldnt agree with you more. I have spent a lot of time, since getting my Helicon 800 speakers, listening to upgrades at up to 3 times the price driven by very expensive front ends, but none so far have matched the way these Dali's can sou...
new Eva Cassidy "Somewhere" Pleased to hear this. Been wondering if I should get it.
General Character of Harmonic Technology? I used the Pro Silway 3 for some time, and finally concluded it sounded a little strange and disjointed, with a slightly bright top end. The best way I can describe it is that the music just didnt seem to integrate top to bottom. Thats in my set u...
Helicon 800 - B&W 802D Josedrm, for what its worth, I have heard both and prefered the Helicon 800mk2. It seemed more lively, transparent, and 3D. The 802D seemed a little more restrained, but it is also excellent. I didnt hear them side by side, so its hardly a fair co...
You favourite Thanks for your responses. Lots to research and listen to.
You favourite "Your favourite World Music artist"I wonder what happened to my title. Half of it disappeared.
Burn In I discovered something interesting about burn in and bass. If you want to increase your bass response in your equipment, run Bela Fleck's "Flight of the cosmic hippo" on repeat for a few hours. Watch out, because it generates heat fast. It warms m...
"Litmus test" songs Another trick I use in testing out equipment is to try out flawed recordings. e.g. If you have a recording where you know that the guitar has a marginally harsh edge, then a great system doesnt correct this for you, or it will fail elsewhere.
Cables for GamuT L-5 speakers? I would suggest you try Chord "Epic Super Twin" which I know works will with Gamut and Dali (both Danish), so maybe this will work well with the L5. You could also wait for Gamut's speaker cable, which I believe is coming sometime.
Power cord for GamuT? I am currently using the Nordost Shiva on the Gamut DI150, which is supposedly similar to what you have, and on my Gamut CD3. I honestly cant be certain it is the best choice, but the system sounds stunning. I will be watching this thread.
EVA CASSIDY DCstep, you are probably right re Barber -- a little dark and different by comparison with Cassidy, but great range/voice as you know. The song showing of her skill would be "too rich for my blood". A great test for your hardware. Some of Cole's w...
EVA CASSIDY Eva Cassidy was superb. Here are a few more great female voices that that I am enjoying lately: Vienna Teng, Alison Krauss, Holy Cole, Patricia Barber, Jenifer Warnes, Mary Black, and some may disagree, but even K.D. Lang's later works, e.g. her v... |
