Consonance CD120 v. Rega Apollo I haven't heard the Apollo, but just bought a CD120 Linear a couple months back from a fellow A'goner. This is the first CD player that I actually like listening to. It is no longer a case of CD being a necessary evil. My priorities in the present...
Tube amp for rock? Newb Questions Maybe you should try the Fisher-400 tube receiver. I listen to mainly classic rock type stuff and this has been my favorite "amp" so far. It maintains the peppiness inherent in good rock and roll while giving you some of that tubed midrange. It al...
Tube preamp with great pace?Cary, Supratek, etc.? jay_douglas_287, you are probably correct. The only problem I have with that is the same problem as the original poster I think. These "systems" seem to share a lack of tonality and spaciousness to go with their PRaT. I guess the best one can hope...
Tube preamp with great pace?Cary, Supratek, etc.? I think that many people who see the word PRaT will have a rough idea of what it means, but I also believe that if you haven't heard a properly setup Naim, Linn or Exposure system, you haven't really heard PRaT. I think many people will think abou...
Linn/Naim user seeks advice on tube pre/ss amp I asked a similar question on the Naim site and couple of members suggested hybrids such as those from Croft or Unison Research. They had some other suggestions but I don't recall what they were. I was doing some research on the Unison Unico, but ...
Help with noise Well, I found some sheets of very thin aluminum that can be molded by hand and cut with scissors. I built a cage and the hum went away. There is still some hiss left but it was the hum that was most irritating.Mike
VPI cleaner clear tubes cracking I am starting on my 3rd tube in about 5 years. I think it has to do with the alcohol. I use a solution of 1/3 alcohol, 2/3 distilled water, a few drops of PhotoFlow surfactant and a few drops of Windex. Maybe I should cut down more on the alcohol ...
Upgrade LP 12 or... Given your system, I would put the LP12 on a better support and change out the cartridge to a Dynavector. Or, if you want a set and forget type TT, go for the P9. From your system description, you have a need for speed. I have an LP12 and have not...
Question for LP-12 owners PRAT = Pace, Rhythym And Timing. The stuff that makes you want to tap your feet when the music startsMike
How do you store a whole lotta LP's? I finally ended up building mine from MDF. I don't like storing albums in a way that I have to read the spine to find an LP. I like to flip thru them and see the cover. I started out with one design but as I built it, it morphed into something els...
Personal analog evolution I started out by listening to my Dad's stuff, first a Garrard and then an Elac Miracord. My first TT was a BSR. The when I started earning money, I got a Dual 721 with various upgrades via the Shure V15 line of cartridges. Then I started getting i...
Linn LP12 Black Felt Mat How do you keep it on ? Or, if you've got some extra green burning a hole in your pocket, get a VPI record cleaner. After I clean a record with this and put it into a VPI non static record sleeve, there is no more static. I do not have to use a record brush anymore and t...
difference between CD recorder and PC burner Sogood51: If I buy one of the pro decks, I should be able to use the same CD-ROM disks that PCs use. I am just not sure if all CD players can play them back. But it sounds like using the HDD to store all the songs I want to record and then using S...
Down sizing If you don't mind SS and you realy want to use as little space as possible, maybe you should look at the Linn Classik integrated. It also has a CD player and tuner built in as well as several available inputs. I have only read reviews, but that ha...
