MHDT Orchid or Lampizator Amber 3? Have been lurking on this thread as I am trying to determine what DAC will be replacing my Schiit Gumby. (Running with a Line Magnetic LM-805IA SET amp and Spendors A7’s)@big_greg so if I am reading you correctly you are saying that the Orchid >...
To integrate or not... I’ll second the Line Magnetic LM-805ia. 48 wpc of SET magic, amazing transformers (it weighs 90 lbs), and great looks. It’s truly in another league than the PrimaLuna Evo 400 (which is manufactured in China by a formerly related company Cayin).
What could be the differences between the Spendor A4 and A7 in terms of sound quality? Room size may dictate your choice as well in terms of how much bass, and thus speaker, is appropriate.the A7's, in my 13 x 23 room, produce superb bass at times and are pretty easy to position. I have the front baffle about 26" out, positioned alo...
What could be the differences between the Spendor A4 and A7 in terms of sound quality? Personally I think you neither want nor need grilles for the A series. Though it is chintzy not to include them.
What could be the differences between the Spendor A4 and A7 in terms of sound quality? As a recent A7 owner and exhaustive researcher, I will throw in my 3 cents for both the OP and @glow_worm:1. I have not heard the A4's but I am not aware of anyone who does not think that the A7 sounds better than the A4. The bass port, larger cab...
I Thought I Had My Speaker Choice Narrowed Down. Maybe Not? I have a recently acquired pair of Spendor A7's and can tell you that they are pretty forgiving with respect to positioning, mainly to the way the bass port works and the tweeter dispersion (not ultra wide). They are also very easy to drive (imped...
Tube Amps With Good Bass Qualities Agreed on the Line Magnetic. The LM-805ia - which has replaced the 508ia but with similar specs - lists for the OP's 5k price point and has a negative feedback control with 4 positions.
Why are brick and mortar HiFi dealers so bad? Regarding Seattle hi-fi shops above ... I happen to live near the old ’hi-fi zone’ in Ravenna/Roosevelt. I have bought gear and spent much time in the Audio Connection (very small selection but John is helpful and his single listening room is grea...
Should I sell my accuphase for this schiit @georgehifi I am unclear - have you actually listened to a bridged vs stereo aegir?? All I know is that you said that the detailed review i linked above might have pushed the stereo Aegir past it’s limit. While bridging may in theory have some neg...
Should I sell my accuphase for this schiit I would suggest that the ascend acoustics sierra 2ex are on the inefficient side, so that may be a consideration. I found the Sierra 2 a little boring, I guess I prefer a little more personality in my speakers, Ascend usually voices their speakers...
Should I sell my accuphase for this schiit @georgehifi According to the "audiofool"’s comprehensive comparison ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRK-8Z714BQ ... the Aegir does not seem to suffer much from bridging. In fact, power aside, a pair of Aegir mono blocks sounds better than a st...
need recommendations for standmount speakers The speakers were about 10 cm away from back wall and in a small cove ie not much space to right and left of speakers. Speakers placed about 5 ft apart. Room was smaller than my own. Were there any foam bungs in the rear ports? Surprised it didn't ...
Schiit Aegir power amplifier low power Class-A linear amp Stereophile review I have been looking for a pair of used Aegirs to show up but at the tiny discount people are willing to pay for used ones I might just do a new purchase, (back ordered or not). There was a listing on eBay a couple of days ago for $680 + $60 shippi...
need recommendations for standmount speakers It would be remiss not to include ATC SCM19's (or SCM11's) on this list, as the sealed design works well near walls, they have revealing tweeters, and mid-bass punch ... downside is that they are too neutral and/or analytical for some.
need recommendations for standmount speakers @vinguard, I have owned both of those speakers ...imo, I wouldn’t say that the Special 40’s lack sparkle, it’s just that they lean a lot towards the mid-bass. OP wants both more mid-bass weight and some top end sparkle - I think the S40 tonality m... |
