What's the deal with idler turntables and do they have a place in modern HiFi?

Anyone heard Ubiq Model One?
I finally got to hear these speakers the other day. The top end is anything but harsh. They aren't the last word in resolution, but have a very warm, beguiling and addictive sound that makes bad recordings sound listenable.
Clearaudio Virtuoso Ebony Wood or Ortofon 2M Black Cartridge?
The 2M Black is more clinical. It depends on the rest of the chain and your personal preferences. I prefer more body and warmth, so would stick with the Virtuoso, in my system, but YMMV.
Do top Idler drive tables fall short to top belt drives in any particular area.
Arthur Salvatore doesn't think so. Have a read of this:http://www.high-endaudio.com/RC-Lenco.html
Tonearm recommendation
@rauliruegas I cannot agree more. It's ridiculous that most tonearm manufacturers do not make an accurate, high quality jig to go with their own arms.
Ortofon 2M Black?
I'm not keen on it. I think that for a MM it sounds thin and lacks midrange body. If you like this presentation or if the rest of your system is on the warm side it may be a good fit. Personally, I would go for the Clearaudio Maestro Wood but it's...
Tonearm recommendation
WTF? This is a tonearm thread, not another boring digital vs analog one!
What's your biggest surprise in hifi?
That as I have upgraded my system, while the really well recorded/mastered stuff sounds fantastic, so much music that was enjoyable on the cheaper gear is now hard to listen to because all the faults are revealed. It makes me wish I'd stayed happy...
Anyone heard UBIQ Model 1?
Just bumping this thread, because I only just found out about these speakers, via the glowing review in monoandstereo.com and am intrigued. If they really do what they are purported to do then they are a must listen as far as I'm concerned.
Trans Fi Salvation direct rim drive turntable
I wonder if any here have heard both the Salvation/Terminator and a recent Jean Nantais modified Lenco. I am currently in the process of acquiring a JN Reference Mk2 and would be very interested in such comparisons. Of course, for a proper compari...
What the *#$@ happened??
Is it better to hear "the truth" and not enjoy it, or to hear something more coloured that you actually enjoy? I will take the latter.
Experience with Miyajima Takumi Cartridge?
@lakeallen thanks for posting those impressions...not
12" Tonearms for TD-124
@dgarretson does it not depend on the cart that will be used? The OP stated that he will initially be using a DL 103R, which would seem to suit the higher effective mass arm better.
12" Tonearms for TD-124
I’m currently going through the same dilemma regarding arms for a rebuilt Lenco and would welcome any feedback. I like the sliding base on the SME arms as it makes setup a breeze. Oddly, internet searches don’t turn up very much info on the M2-12R...
Anti-Static Brush
I bought the Mapleshade brush and cannot endorse it at all. It sheds fine metal fibres very badly, which then get caught up in my cartridge as they are attracted to the magnet. An utter nightmare!! It helped with static though, so would be great i...
