I need SS muscle
McCormack DNA 225s can be had cheap with the launch of the DNA 250. It's a great amp, I have a DNA 125 and it's extremely musical and has great dynamics.
Mirage BPS-400 subwoofer or something new?
great sub for $250
very detailed bookshelf monitor around $700 used
I've seen PSB Platinum M2s for as low as $800, awesome speaker.
Transitioning from Tubes back to SS
I bought a McCormack RLD-1 and DNA-125 and never looked back.
Bryston or Outlaw
The Bryston is leagues above the 200. The 200s are good for budget system. The ATI amps are good and have a seven year warranty, but Bryston's is 20.
Snell
Snell's still in business ?
3 head cassette decks
Believe it or not Sanyo made a serious deck back in the day, the 5370. You can buy them dirt cheap, IF you can find one. I still use it to make tapes for my car, it's a great sounding machine. http://www.vintagecassette.com/Sanyo/RD5370
What the most musical power amp for under $1K?
I have a McCormack DNA 125 and love it, in fact it replaced an Anthem AMP 1 which was a nice sounding 40w tube amp. The DNA 125 is a great amp that you can find used for around $800. FWIW I paid $1600 for mine new and felt it was well worth the mo...
An antiquated DAC or an affordable recent one?
I've owned some older Audio Alchemy dacs, some decent CD players, and a CAL Alpha DAC which was one of my better hifi purchases some time ago. A while back I started out looking for a cheap DAC to connect my cable box and DVD player to in a 2.1 sy...
Sherwood
Unfortunately no one's actually heard the 972, it's not here yet.
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
My first player was also a Sony CDP 101 that I picked up new in '83. It was cool being the first kid on the block with a CD player but there were only about a dozen rock albums on CD at the time. Despite it's shortcomings I thought that the Compac...
REL subwoofer
I have a R305 and really like it, in terms of sound quality it's the best sounding sub I've ever owned regardless of price. Unfortunately the R305 isn't well suited for large rooms or high volumes. It's great for music but if you are looking for h...
Internet Direct Speakers.. Axiom M80 Thoughts

Internet Direct Speakers.. Axiom M80 Thoughts
I don't think there are that many I.D. speakers that are actually better than their retail competition. After all few I.D. companies actually make their own speakers, Axiom is one of the few that I know of. They are better suited to home theater a...
Would you pay to audition speakers
Please let us know the name of the dealer so I can be sure not to waste MY time visiting him. If I wanted to pay to audition speakers I would try several I.D. brands... after all aren't you "paying" to audition them by returning them at your expen...
