Dr. Feickert Analogue Woodpecker turntable
@jasonbourne71 Not to feed your ego too much, but I loved your 'seismigraph'  observation. That is exactly what a turntable is. And explains not only what an unlikely technology it is to have lasted over a century (!) but why turntables, arms, and...
Did my preamp short kill my Mark Levinson amps and Infinity Beta servo ?
OK, a 'short' means that somehow the preamp leaked DC voltage into the Infinity crossover/servo box and the power amp? But if the Infinity is a Low Pass/High Pass setup, which I think it is, the high pass section would block DC from the HP output ...
MM or MI Cartridge?
@terry9 I pretty clearly stated there were a lot of other factors " There are other factors, to be sure, vibration control, compliance, tracking ability, and several more but all of those can be controlled independently of the electromagnetic perf...
Front or Back wall diffusers
That's a generous sized room. The main thing to remember is you are treating a system that consists of the speakers, where they are in the room, and thus how the acoustically load the room, and the room characteristics themselves, including all wa...
What speaker could safely be ordered without hearing it first?
With caveats and a basic understanding for room size (no LS3/5a in large rooms) placement (no Magnepans up against the wall), and power (MAs are esy to drive, moderately efficient, Maggies need more) I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with ...
End of life for Vandersteen IICe?
I'd c-list them for a nominal sum, buyer pickup. Your junk, another's treasure.

MM or MI Cartridge?
The big difference between MC/MI/and MM cartridges boils down to a very few factors, most notably stylus profile, of which much ink has been spilled, and inductance, which is rarely mentioned. Moving coil carts have the lowest, then Moving Iron, a...
Digitally recorded vinyl vs streaming
I think a lot depends on the specifics of the digital systems used, i.e. were they 16/44, 24/96 or something else entirely? If the recordings were made using 24/96 technology, the vinyl made from those masters might  sound better than CD, stream, ...
Recommendations for against the wall high efficiency speakers
+1 for the Monitor Audio Silver 500 7G. Not only are they the least expensive full range speakers in Stereophile's Class A Full Range category, they have an amazing combination of speed, agility and non-fatiguing ease that is very appealing. Their...
Speakers for yoga studio
Definitely use weatherproofed speakers. Particle board, MDF, even plywood + heat and humidity = moisture absorption and swelling cabinets, split veneers or peeling vinyl. Not to mention what hot 'n humid will do to drivers, voice coils, adhesives,...
Inexpensive streaming amplifier
Sell the Wharfedales and get a pair of SVS Prime Wireless Pro. Self-contained speaker/amps/streamer they won't crowd a NYC apartment and they will rock if asked. They offer just about every kind of connectivity available including HDMI ARC/eARC. I...
Looking for new speakers for large audio room
JBL S3900s or JBL 4367 and a pair of SVS SB or PB 16 Ultra Subwooofers. Alternatively, the pair of REL No. 31 or 32. Any combination would absolutely do the trick in a 5500 FT3 or 150 M3 room. No direct driver loudspeaker will have the output or d...
Magnepan LRS+ which amps do you use ? * 100 watts or less **
200W is only 3dB more power than 100W. Maggies do like lots of current, so any amp that is Happy at 4 Ohms and 100 W/Ch will do right on the LRS. If you want loud Maggies, then get bigger Maggies.
Great sound at high volume
The new big JBL monitors combine efficiency, dynamics and sound quality in ways older designs never could. I've never heard a Kilipsch that didn't sound ragged, even with the mellowest tube amps. ATCs are great, but there's simply no way a single ...
