Is bass the most important frequency band?
This is my opinion. Bass is a foundation and what creates excitement to music. It is the guts of the music but without the rest of the body it is lifeless. The way different frequencies blend and form music is in fact an art. Thus, artists were de...
PrimaLuna Evo 200 underwhelming
I have an Primaluna EVO 100 intgrated with Bluesound node 2i, innuos mini Mk III. The sound is breathtaking on my 8"   5 cu ft DYI 3 way towers. All with the stock tubes.  Not sure what to say other than you have a mismatch somewhere. My speakers ...
Crown vs Vidar
Update, bought a Primaluna EVO 100,  and not looking back. A new level of audio sound above Shiit Vidar, Crown, and in a higher league.  Both sounded good but could not compete against the 30W / channel prima luna with my DIY towers. Absolutely im...
How are most audiophiles going from streamers to DACS
Living on a limited budget.  Running a Bluesound Node 2i , Audioquest cables to a Shiit Byfrost, , sounds good but not close to the CD sound of the innous mini mk III. Running UDP on direct Ethernet. The details for symbol decay, ring, instruments...
Point to Point vs Circuit Board
Six of one, half a dozen of the other.  If the circuit board traces are thick there will be less resistance in the trace and therefore will not be energy thermal loss. Depending on design either can have capacitive and inductive reactances that ca...
What Integrated Amp do You use
Pimaluna EVO 100 and absolutely love it and could not be happier for the money spent. The sound is amazing on the Bluesound node 2i and better yet on the Innuos mini Mk III. I compared it with another high end integrated amp before deciding to try...
How many of you are digital only systems?
I am new to Digital as well. Have a PrimaLuna EVO-100 integrated, Bluesound Node 2i running through a Shiit Bifrost DAC using AudioQuest Cables. Burn CD’s to a Innuos Mini MK III and could not be happier with the sound. I live in a small town home...
Considering a POSSIBLE replacement for speakers. Opinions?
I heard a pair of Paradigm $4500 / pair tower speakers at a B&M store on a Prima Luna EVO , and a Hegel 390.   Crystal clear and very detailed on sax, cymbals, lots of soundstage and presents.  Instruments, drum sound exactly like they should....
Best Integrated Amp (for me)
I suggest a retail store that has a listening room. Marantz and Yamaha integrated amps seem to have a good following with happy customers. Listen to the Parasound new classic too if you have a chance. Compare on the LS 50's also if you can. Differ...
Class D amps seem poised to take over. Then what?
Class D will most likely take over if you have inefficient speakers that take tons of power like Electrostatics.  They are great in large areas, sub woofers because they are powerful.  I have heard some class D amps and they do sound good.  For so...
Class D amps that are superior to all or most?
A very good friend of mine has the mid sized Magnapans. He tried the pair of M500 MkII Monoblocks and said that they had plenty of power and sound great. However he pulled them, installed two Shiit Vidars ran mono to replace the dragons. He told m...
Upscale Audio and Primaluna
Primaluna is great gear. I am sorry for your bad sales experience. I went to a Minneapolis dealer.  Told him up front my gear which was a 40 year old Crown PL1 SL1. He never said anything to knock what I had. It held it's own against a Freya &...
Leaky capacitors need replacement?
Replace the capacitors. Be careful though there may be other components affected by the leaky caps.  An O Scope will help to see if the signal looks clean.
is using a tube amp every day bad?
Tubes will degrade over time but can take a beating. Dont worry about using them every day. Most likely it will take several years before you hear when a tube replacement is needed.
6.5 vs 8 vs 10 woofer
I agree with  with Larryi. As a speaker builder I respect his angle on design, implementation as in the right woofer for cabinet volume and other factors as in component selection. Cross over selection. Internal cabling, internal damping materials...
