Harbeth 30.1 or 40.1
Agree with @twoleftears , an 18' x 16' room is far from small and can accommodate at least 2-3 feet of clearance that most speakers need from surrounding walls to sound their best.  Based upon the listening preferences the OP described in his init...
Harbeth 30.1 or 40.1
Long time 40.1 owner here.  Your room size is fine for 40.1's... and no, you don't need a powerful amp... especially for listening to jazz and vocals at moderate levels.  A good quality amp (I prefer tubes) with 75 WPC is all you need.  I've also ...
Should I leave an Old Krell FPB 400 cx on all the time?
Use standby mode unless you don't expect to be listening regularly or are leaving for vacation or a long business trip.
DAC volume controls
Audio Aero DAC w/volume control direct into Music Reference RM9 MKII amp.   Sounds great... even better than when I had an Aesthetix Calypso Signature in the mix.  No regrets selling the preamp, simplifying my system and improving my sound quality.

Highly recommend Dueland cables from Acoustic BBQ. I use them on both of my systems. No need to pay more.  Need about 100 - 150 hours of break-in time.https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lisa2j7j-acoustic-bbq-speaker-cable-8-foot-set-duelund-kle-inn...
McIntosh 275 power amplifier with Cary 98SLP preamp
I enjoyed my time with MC 275 MKV, but not sure it will provide enough current for your Dyn’s. Music Reference RM200 can be had at reasonable prices used and is designed to be used with speakers with demanding current requirements.http://www.ramla...
How much $ in used gear streaming to beat $5000 CD player
Lumin U1 mini streamer ($2K new) + a DAC of your choice should exceed the sound quality of your cdp.  I enjoyed my time with a Luxman DA06 DAC ($2.3K used), but there are many others in that price range that should work for you.
Are Music Reference amps still available new?
Fellow Goner Pehare uses this amp.  May want to reach out to him for insight.
Are Music Reference amps still available new?
Yes.  http://www.ramlabs-musicreference.com/rm10mk2.htmlYou can also reach out to Audiogoner clio09, as I believe he still works for Music Reference.  As an aside, I've owned a vintage Music Reference RM9 MKII for several years (refurbished by Rog...

@dpac996... have you tried bypassing your preamp and running direct thru your amp, given the analog volume control?I sold my preamp (Aesthetix Calypso Sig.) after I tried running my DAC with analog volume control direct to my amp.

What Are Your Experiences with Decoupling Products and Your Recommendations?
I recommend and use Herbie's "Fat Dots" to couple my Harbeth's to Sound Anchor stands.  However, I strongly preferred coupling Sound Anchor stands with supplied steel spikes to the concrete slab floor over carpet vs. using Herbie's Gliders, as the...
YBA 3a amp...
it's been many years since I owned this amp, but going off memory, I recall it being class A/B 50 wpm.
Question on streaming, ripping etal......
I use a Bluesound Vault 2 run through an external DAC. Ripped cd’s sound better than streaming via Spotify, but the difference is marginal. I think it’s nice to have both options. If you do go with Bluesound, it’s critical to pair it with an exter...
External DAC connection for Bluesound Node 2i (after "Another streaming newbie" thread)
I'm using an optical cable (paid around $100, but don't recall the brand). It's connected to my Audio Aero Capitol Reference DAC/CPD and sounds wonderful... much, much better than the Bluesound internal DAC in my Vault 2.
