How long do speakers last?
Without having to do anything to them they last exactly 20 years, 275 days, and 30 seconds.
Did the Old Receivers Sound Good?
If you're driving an old gas-guzzler, your going to like them old receivers. Yes they look cool and have substance but they are not going to measure up to modern electronics. Starting in the early 90's well designed amplifiers took a big leap in s...
Did vinyl sales just hit the proverbial brick wall?
Yes, records hit the wall at full velocity and broke into a million pieces, it brought a full standing ovation. However, that's the haters and there are many on Audiogon. I made a comment on how I love vinyl. I was attacked verbally. At 18 years o...
Class D with high efficiency speakers
Efficient amps and efficient speakers, sounds like a fabulous combination and it is.
Help. System sounds thin and bright or harsh
Focus on cables and their replacement. Stay away from bright sounding cables that have silver wire. Don't buy the ones that are advertised as highly revealing as this can put you over the top, especially if your components are considered to be hig...
Tube or solid state
Tube amps in my opinion are too high maintenance, although they sound good for certain music. In a world of growing shortages, tubes may increasingly become difficult to find and expensive to buy. I like the idea of a tube preamp coupled to a nice...
Bad experience with an electrician
Are you positive your negative?
Don’t buy used McCormack DNA 1990s amps
After reading this I'm never going to buy amp that old again! The OP is correct, there are problems with the traces on the McCormack's input board that develope after a given number of years and may not be repairable unless you want to spend a ton...
You know when you are dealing with a BS company....
You get 20% more in sound quality (maybe) and 20% less in available funds when you need it the most. If you are going to buy cables be sure to read the reviews and just remember they are system dependent.  Be prepared to invest in addtional cabli...
Soundstage drastically worsened when I replaced a solid state AV amp with tubes.
The great designers of our time know how to engineer an amp to get specific but desirable results. I'm still shocked how one amp could do one thing and then just going to a different model of the same manufacturer can produce different results, bu...
Ditching Class A Amps due to Heat - Sort of a Poll
atmasphere, definately I will look in to that . Thanks
Ditching Class A Amps due to Heat - Sort of a Poll
Your paying the electric bill, so run a Class A amp as long as you want. Leave it on 24/7, it's perfectly fine. If they are so worried about climate change why were we forced to use old technology like the combustion engine for over a 100 years.
Mid-fi tube vs high-end SS
You are doing the right thing moving to a solid state amp. Why not add a nice tube preamp if you must do tubes..Keep in mind that tubes are going to get harder to find as time goes on, especially since there are now two new strains of omicron viru...
What am I missing?
I don't think CD sales are up. but they should be. Lets think of this logically, why would you buy CDs if you can stream your music for free. However you should be buying all the CDs you can get your hands on because that is the format including D...
Why do Tube Amps sound more romantic v SS amps
You don't have to understand how a tube works to know if you like-em. No solid state device can sound like a tube for audio. But if you can combine tubes with solid state, you get the best of both worlds, nothing new about this design. One of my a...
