speed stability
I used a PS Audio P300 to power the motor of a VPI Scout in the past. My experience is exactly summarized by Dkarmeli's post above. While it didn't provide the finer increments of frequency tuning the SDS did, it was good enough in my case. I hear...
Hand drying records using a VPI 16.5 or the like.
I buy packages of microfiber polishing cloths from autoparts stores for drying/cleaning records. Inexpensive, very functional, and don't leave a trace of lint.
Using a RS SPL meter
Oh, and supposedly the RS meter requires adding a +7.5 db correction @ 20hz and 5 db @ 25 hz.
Using a RS SPL meter
If you do a Google search for "Radio Shack SPL meter corrections" you find links to lots of discussions about this topic on AVS forum. I've got both the Stereophile and Rives Audio test cds (the Rives cd has tracks that are supposedly corrected fo...
Price Increases
I found Alan Taffel's article in this months Absolute Sound about the Swiss audio industry fascinating for its perspectives on the audio business and the business model Swiss industry has adopted. A point I noticed (relevant to this thread) was th...
What would give the best overall improvement
Nice system and room you have there. Your vinyl playback system as a synergistic entity and no one item is going to be responsible for a quantum leap forward once you get to a certain level (unless you had some gross mismatch of products that was ...
What's on your turntable this holiday season?
Today played Karl Hartmann's symphony #2, a couple sides of Bernard Hermann's Wuthering Heights opera, Michael Jackson's Thriller, lp one of Bee Gee's Odessa, and Lyle Lovett's Pontiac.
floor standing speakers with powered woofer
ACI Talisman & Talisman SE's, four ways with powered subwoofers. Less than 300 pairs were made I believe.
Benefit of low output moving-iron Grado ?
Seeing that the phono card in your Exposure sold for $269, I doubt a $500 stand alone Grado phono stage would be much of an improvement. More likely a lateral move. If your heart is set on trying a Grado phono stage, I'd call Grado and ask for the...
Benefit of low output moving-iron Grado ?
Swapping the Sonata for the Master should be pretty painless as far as setup goes. It could need rebalancing though, as there are fewer turns of wire in the low output Master and the older Sonata bodies were a variety of Mahogany whereas the newer...
Benefit of low output moving-iron Grado ?
Not sure how relevant my experience would be to yours, but here goes for what it's worth. I wanted to upgrade my Grado Sonata high output and so I traded it in to Grado for a low output Master 1. At the time, I was using a Music Reference RM5III a...
Buying A Cartridge Direct From Japan
I too bought from 2juki with no problems and no import tariffs.
Do you use a microfiber cloth to wipe LPs?
Right before playing them, I use a microfiber cloth to wipe the surface of my records after they've been cleaned with my Nitty Gritty or by steam cleaning. I'm too lazy to clean my records with the Nitty Gritty every time I listen. I just fold the...
What is best sub to match with Magnepan?
What is it about the Sunfire that's "not doing the job" specifically? Are you having integration issues of some sort? I ask because I was able to integrate 10" driver Sunfire subs very successfully with Maggie 1.6's. The Sunfires were not last wor...
Do you run a high end power cord on your sub?
I recently replaced the stock cord on my Fathom F112 with a 2 meter Wireword Aurora cord and was pleasantly surprised to hear a little further tautening of response. The sub shares an electrical circuit with my RCM Sensor phono preamp and I notice...
