My baby left me... left me sad and bluuuuueee.... I know you are feeling blue, but ... if you are feeling a little vindictive I would suggest some early Richard Thompson, i.e., shortly after he split with Linda. There are some VERY biting lyrics on how he thought about her. He was probably a litt...
CD input in Audio Reserach I have an SP-9 Mk II and the CD input is intentionally at a lower level. I think it's 6 dB but I don't have the manual available to check. I would presume the Mk III is the same way. It's working fine don't worry about it!
Firesign Theatre I seem to recall one album was titled "We're all Bozos on this Bus" or something like that. Always thought that their material must be how it feels to do some bad drugs! Very creative, but very weird.
Why a second Vandersteen sub? Swampwalker, can you identify the members who make the improved filters? I've been thinking about doing it myself, but never seem to have time. Would be good to know who to go to. Thanks in advance!
ARC LS 16 MK1 vs. ARC LS25 MKll I had been using an SP-9 MK II for about ten years. A few months back I tried an LS-16 MK II. It was an improvement but not a very big one. Can't really say if it was the preamp or some other variable (room?) that kept me from hearing the massive ...
What audio equipment should I take to Kirkuk, Iraq I would suggest you check out the Headroom website. They used to recommend portable players, if they don't have it on the site you can call them. If you don't know the voltage of where you are staying I would recommend a battery powered amp such a...
etymotic 4P earphones I've got the 4P's and I wouldn't consider them tinny at all. While the bass is not as good as my home system the rest of the spectrum is very good. The problem could be the drivers are not sealing properly. Either the fit is off or the driver is n...
The Best Live album Since no one else has mentioned it Peter Gabriel "Plays Live" is a great live recording. This was my introduction to his music and I've played it far more than other CD/LP in my collection.
Purpose of triangular placement of cones/spikes? Primary reason is three points define a plane. If a fourth point is added and is not in the same plane (very likely unless the surface is perfectly flat) then it either does nothing or more likely makes matters worse by not having a solid contact ...
Please help, obsessive audiophile question A couple of suggestions based on the photo of your system. Try swapping the plants from side to side to see if that shifts things. They are different sizes and the Martin Logans do have a significant back wave adding to the sound. The other thing ...
Would Audiogoners be interested in this? I think it's a great idea. It's difficult to keep up with all the various artists that interest me and it would be much easier to just go to one site, Audiogon, for all that information. Only downfall I see is that if you cover all music formats t...
From CAL Alpha to ARC DAC3:an upgrade? I can't answer your question but I am surprised to see you're using the Alpha in place of the DAC in the CD2. I would presume you prefer it to the internal DAC (or is there a technical problem with the internal DAC?). Is there a signficant improve...
Tubes for Mcintosh MR71 The guy who will be doing the alignment does not have a tube tester so having him test is not an option. With respect to the tubes I was trying here’s what I’ve got:12AT7 – Telefunken and RCA6BN4A – RCA, GE, and Zenith6AU6A – IEC (Japan) and RCA6C...
McCormack or Quicksilver for Vandersteen 2ci? I had 2Ci's and drove them for a short time with a Classic 60 (I've since moved up to 3A Sigs). It was a very good match, no real problems in the bass, just the inherent warmth of the 2Ci's. I also tried a pair of the Quicksilver monos (8417?) at ...
Good uses for a sound pressure meter? I found that when using test signals standing waves are much more noticeable. In my case in the mid-band moving my head from side to side made a dramatic change in the level. It's quite likely that the meter is reading correctly and your ears are ... |
