My first Tube Amplifier @bdp24 : I've had Futterman OTL's in long-term use with Quad 57's. They do sound great together, even though the impedance falls to <2 ohms at 20khz. Partly due to the Futterman's low output impedance (high feedback).
Help with some Vintage gear??? @sherf : Sorry for misreading your post! Yes, the 747 is worth more than the 707. About $400 + !
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD Mike Sanders (Quicksilver) makes an excellent SUT. I have one (among several others in my collection)!
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD MC cartridges are high-current/low-voltage devices. The best way to change that low-voltage to a level sufficient to drive a phono stage (while keeping noise low) is with a transformer (inherently lower noise floor than an active stage). And keep ...
Discontinued equipment that you wish were still here. What do you miss or think will miss? @reubent : I had two Audionics CC2 amps. Never tried them bridged. Excellent SQ! Worthy of resurrection! I still have one in need of possible repair (not one of the two originals).
Cover songs that are better than the originals. @awhittington : I have owned (GW $3!) and read "The Real Frank Zappa". Excellent!
Silver cables I bought 5 sets of Audioquest Silver Extreme ICs from HCM. $500 brand new. A good deal!
Stones mono box set thoughts on audio quality You may check Michael Fremer's site Analog Planet for a review of the LP set.
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD Sometimes the best that can be said is "we like what we like!"
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD "East is East, and West is West! And never the twain shall meet!" - R.Kipling
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD @almarg : You are correct! 10 times the cartridge impedance is about the proper loading for an MC!
Cartridge for ATP-12T Try the Hana LE for $500 (new). Favorably reviewed by HR recently in Stereophile!
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD @dill : You sir are right! Phono stages vary widely in SQ! As do cartridges! Add in tonearms and the variables become too much for the less dedicated!
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD Analog playback is fraught with peril! A lot of experimentation is necessary! TT + tonearm + mat + cartridge + phonostage vs. CD player/transport/DAC. I said back in 1978 that I would get rid of my LPs if Sony/Philips could perfect their digital s...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD And your TT/arm combination is suspect! I'd wager my Sondek/FR arm and 103 would handily beat the VPI. These Scottish TT's (Ariston and Linn) have such an overall pleasing "musicality" that has kept me using them for so many years! |
